U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Robert P. Skinner (1933–1936), on March 2, 1934 sent a telegram to the State Department notifying that the few genocide survivor Armenians still living in their historic homeland were being forcibly deported from their land by the Turkish government of Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk).

Amb. Skinner noted that: "...It is likely, that their removal, is simply one step in the government's avowed policy of making Anatolia purely Turkish..."
