Twenty years after gaining independence from the USSR, many people have benefited from the great transition while millions still live in poverty. This groundbreaking exhibition unravels the enigma surrounding many of the forgotten ex-Soviet republics, and follows the stories of women and communities who are striving to build a better future.

Left: Rafiga Ahmedova harvests onions in Azerbaijan. With support from Unilever, Oxfam and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Rafiga will be able to sell her onions overseas and get a fair price for her produce. Photo: Kieran Doherty

Front: Irifat Babyan looks in dismay at her apricot trees covered in snow in rural Armenia, where late frosts have ruined the precious apricot crop. Oxfam is helping farmers like Irifat to address the impact of climate change, set up storage facilities and access new markets. Photo: Abbie Trayler-Smith
