This Sunday, 7 October 2012

Lecture Luncheon
"Sources of Faith of the Armenian Church", a presentation by Dr Hratch Tchilingirian (Oxford University), followed by discussion. Light lunch will be served in the Nvart Gulbenkian Hall following the Divine Liturgy and before the discussion. Donation: £10.

Dr. Hratch Tchilingirian is a sociologist and associate faculty member of the Oriental Institute, Oxford University, focusing on minority communities in the Middle East and Armenian Studies. Previously he held various academic positions at Cambridge University for nearly a decade. He received his PhD from the London School of Economics, a Master of Public Administration from California State University Northridge, and a Master of Divinity from St. Vladimir's Theological Seminary in New York.  A lifelong student of theology and sociology of religion, he studied at the seminary of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, as well as St. Nersess Seminary in New York, where he served as Dean in 1991-1994.  In addition to inter-ethnic conflicts in the Caucasus, Dr Tchilingirian has published and lectured extensively on sociological, religious and sociocultural issues in the Diaspora and the Church (www.hratch.info). For more than 30 years he has served the Armenian communities in the US and the UK, where he continues to be very active in various leadership positions.

A special concert on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of St. Sarkis Church. MezzoAnaïs Heghoyan and tenor Sipan Hakobyan will present a special programme, including Mozart, Handel, Verdi, Curtis, Komitas, Ganachian, Harutyunyan. Donation: £10. Advance reservation highly recommended.


SATURDAY, 20 OCTOBER, 7:30 PM
Armenian Evening at St. Sarkis - Dinner with Poet Paruyr Sevak. The poet will be present through his work. Participants will read their favourite Sevak poems. Armenian music and singing.  An exciting cultural and social evening in the Nvart Gulbenkian Hall. Donation: £15. Advance reservation highly recommended.

AREV Children’s play group
Arev Children’s Play Group -- for Pre-School to 7 years old children at St. Sarkis Church -- is an exciting hour of fun through Armenian songs, storytelling and activities. Colloquium - Armenian - "Liturgical Language and Liturgical Celebration," a talk by the Rev. Fr. Shnork Baghdassarian, Pastor of St. Sarkis Church, on the tension between the sacred and the vernacular in the Liturgical celebration in the history of the Universal Church in general and in the Armenian Church in particular, followed by discussion. Christmas Fair at St. Sarkis
Prepared by St. Sarkis Church Ladies Committee a special 90th anniversary fair and authentic Armenian food after Divine Liturgy. Fun days for the entire family.


Saturday, 15 December, 7:00 PM
Christmas Carols
This inspiring evening of Christmas carol singing, worship and fellowship for all Armenians in London and their families is organised by the
Armenian Church Youth Fellowship (ACYF). This festive event will take place in St. Sarkis Church this year in celebration of the church's 90th Anniversary. There will be an evensong service with Christmas carols in Armenian and English, prayers and reflection inside the St. Sarkis Church. The ACYF members will lead in the singing but all are welcome and encouraged to sing along. The church service will be followed by a fellowship reception in the Gulbenkian Hall. Bring your entire family to celebrate Christmas and our heritage.

Ecumenical Service for World Peace
This special church service is held on the occasion of the feast of St. Sarkis, the church's Name Day. This year it will be dedicated to the 90th Anniversary, celebrated with ecumenical and civic guests, the Mayor of Kensington, Armenian community members and parishioners.


Sunday, 27 January, 1:00 PM
St. Sarkis Name Day Madagh, Traditional Harisa
On the occasion of the Feast of St. Sarkis and the Church's Name Day, the Blessing ofMadagh will take place in the church courtyard following the Divine Liturgy. Traditional Harrisa will be distributed to the entire congregation.
