Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev has commented on Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian's statements made at yesterday’s press conference about possible breakthrough in talks on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and expectations after the meeting between presidents of the two countries in Vienna.
At a press conference on 3 December, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers will meet as part of the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OSCE in Kiev. What are your comments on this?
Yes, we confirm that such meeting will be held as part of the session of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers.
I want to reiterate the position expressed by the Azerbaijani side more than once. We meet not for the meeting, but to restore our territorial integrity, get withdrawal of Armenian forces from our territories and the return of IDPs to their native lands. Sooner or later we will achieve this. It's inevitable.
And can there be a breakthrough in the negotiating process, in particular, following presidents’ meeting in Vienna?
If Armenian Foreign Minister Nalbandian is positive in the talks as his president was at a meeting in Vienna, breakthrough is more likely to happen.
Nalbandian noted that the parties will try to make progress in the negotiations, but this requires a desire of both sides and a realistic approach based on the principles and proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group.
