Ara Nahabedian - HMD IN DERBY

On, 27-01-2015, a group of Armenians about 10 people attended the HMD in Derby.
Our cause of the Armenian Genocide was lightly mentioned in the 1st ceremony in the Derby cathedral 6-7pm, but the center of the ceremony was :
The Lighting of a special candle of the HMD by the Armenian Community representative (AN) and bring it in to the Alter and later on taking it back with a special solemn standing of the congregation.
In the second event, 7:30-9 pm, in the QUAD (cinema hall), there was a special 10 minutes of slide presentation about the Armenian Genocide by Mr Russel Pollard, and relating the continuation of the Turkish and Azeri attempts to finalise their unfinished job, in particular in Artsakh.
Mr Russell Pollard deserves all the credit of making this happen: the mention and statement of the Armenian genocide in a Holocaust event.
His presentation of 10 minutes was clear, complete and effective.
Prior to the proceedings, the turkish ambassador has called the Derby Mayor, and the church, to stop them using the word Genocide, and replace it with atrocities or a similar word. But Mr Graham Falgate, Chairman of the Derby HMD planning Group, did not waver in his commitment to say the word Genocide.
After the event, I have spoken to Russell and invited him to visit our church again, in view of giving us a presentation of his experience on his 10 visits to Artsakh. Our march church service is on the 1st of march. It is a lent sunday. I look forward to Russell's presentation.
