BISHOP HOVAKIM MANOUKIAN PRIMATE OF THE UK & IRELAND
The Chancellor’s Office of the Mother See has announced that responding to the suggestions of
the seven parishes in the UK and Ireland, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and
Catholicos of All Armenians has appointed His Grace Bishop; Hovakim Manoukian primate of the
Diocese of the Armenian Church in the UK and Ireland. Bishop Hovakim plans to visit his new
Diocese on the 26th of June. This will terminate the primacy of Bishop Vahan Hovhanessian, who
was elected primate on December 2009. Bishop Vahan would like to thank all who worked with
him on strengthening the foundation of our church and community and in creating essential
programmes for the Church such as the four parishes in Dublin, Cardiff, Birmingham and Oxford,
the Armenian Church Youth Fellowship (ACYF), the annual Armenian Street Festival (ASF), the
Armenian Church Trust UK (ACTUK), the Continuing Education Ministry with its weekly Bible
Study sessions and ongoing lectures, retreats, pilgrimages and more. The editorial committee of
the E-Newsletter welcomes His Grace Bishop Hovakim Manoukian, our new Primate, and wishes

UPDATES - FIFTH ARMENIAN STREET FESTIVAL IN LONDON
On Sunday the 19th of July 2015 from 12pm-6pm the Armenian Church Trust of UK (ACT UK)
will proudly be hosting it's 5th Armenian Street Festival (ASF) at Iverna Gardens, Kensington
W8. St. Sarkis Church and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea will kindly open their
grounds in Iverna Gardens to the community and their guests for a festive afternoon of live Music,
dancing, food, concerts, shopping, raffle, kids entertainment and much more. Those interesting in
volunteering to help at the Festival or who would like to have more information about the Festival

PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND, JANUARY 2016

The Pilgrimage, via Air France, will include visits to biblical shrines such as Bethlehem, Mount of Temptation, Mount of Transfiguration, See of Galilee, Jordan River, and others as well as the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem. The cost of the pilgrimage including the flight, local transportation, hotels, tips and three meals a day is: 1250 GBP for shared room and 1600GBP for private room. LAUNCHING OF A NEW BOOK BY CANON PATRICK THOMAS
At the invitation of St Sarkis Parish and AGBU Young Professional (YP) on Sunday the 31st May
Canon Patrick Thomas Chancellor of St Davids Cathedral & Vicar of Christ Church Carmarthen,
visited London to talk about his new book ‘Remembering the Armenian Genocide 1915’. Venues
were Gulbenkian Hall after Badarak and AGBU YP event at the Tara Hotel, Kensington at 15.00.
Canon Patrick spoke about his motivation for writing his new book and for his deep interest in
Armenian, culture, history & spirituality. Canon Ptarick’s speech was followed by a Q & A
session. This is Canon Patrick’s second book on the Armenians, the first being ‘Carmarthen to
Karabagh.’ Both books were available for sale and Canon Patrick was happy to sign or write a
personalised message on the day. Remembering the Armenian Genocide was launched in Cardiff
on 24th April and Dublin on the 26th April and on both occasions it was a complete sell out.
VERY REVD DR HAMBARTSUMYAN IN LONDON
Reliable sources from the Brotherhood of Holy Etchmiadzin informed the Editorial Committee of
the E-Newsletter that the Very Revd Dr Garegin Hambardzumyan will be visiting the United
Kingdom during the month of July to participate in the graduation ceremonies of the Sheffield
University, where he will be officially bestowed upon the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in
Biblical Studies. Fr Garegin earned his doctorate by submitting and successfully defending his
doctoral dissertation in Oxford University titled, ‘The Book of Ben Sira in the Armenian
Traditions.’ During his stay in the UK Fr Garegin will be visiting the various parishes in the UK
and Ireland including the Parish in Oxford which was formed mainly because of his efforts.
Currently, Fr Garegin holds the position of Deputy Director of the Department of Christian
Education of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in Etchmiadzin, Welcome back Hayr Sourp.
AREV CELEBRATES 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHILDREN’S CLUB
The popular Armenian Church children’s programme AREV celebrates its 5th anniversary with last
meeting of the season before summer. Children and parents join us this Sunday, 28 June, for the
last AREV gathering of the season and to celebrate the 5th birthday of the Children Club.
Armenian artists, composers, songs and dances come alive during each session of AREV. The
AREV program is devised for and aimed at 4-7 years-old children (younger and older children are
welcome). Parents’ presence and participation is essential. The children assemble at 11:00 am
sharp in the Gulbenkian Hall and attend Badarak (Divine Liturgy) in the church for a short while.
At 11:15 am they return to Gulbenkian Hall for the activities of the day. The program ends at

ARMENIAN CATHOLIC PATRIARCH NERSES BEDROS XIX PASSES AWAY: Armenian
Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia Nerses Bedros XIX passed away Thursday, 25 June, in
Lebanon after suffering from a heart attack. The Egyptian born Armenian patriarch is
widely known for serving the Armenian community and promoting its interests. May the
Lord rest his soul in peace and help the Armenian Catholic Church elect a worthy

ARMENIANS IN DUBLIN PARTICIPATE IN ECUMENICAL GATHERING
The Armenian Parish of Dublin participated in an ecumenical gathering in All Hallows College, Dublin, Thursday 11 June, 2015. Over 170 people attended the gathering which was the key event of a new initiative, the Ecumenical Bible Week (EBW). This year the EBW was launched on Pentecost, under the title “Together in one place: exploring the Bible again for the first time.” The key event on Thursday saw six leaders and representatives of different traditions speak of the Bible in their own personal experience. The panel consisted of Abp Michael Jackson (Anglican Archbishop of Dublin), Rev Lorraine Kennedy-Ritchie (Dublin and Munster Presbytery), Mrs Gillian Kingston (Methodist Conference), Abp Diarmuid Martin (Catholic, Dublin), Sean Mullan (Evangelical Alliance) and Fr Mikahil Nasonov (Russian Orthodox Church of Sts Peter and Paul). The moderator was Philip McKinley (Church Development Worker, Ashtown and Blanchardstown Methodist Church). Representing the Armenian Church was Dr Paul MAnook, Chairman of the Armenian Church Parish in Dublin, Ireland.

The Chairman of the ACYF Central Committee, Alex Adamov and the Vice chairman, Anais Heghoyan and Secretary, Suzan Khachatryan will be representing the Diocese of the UK and Ireland in attending the annual ACYF Conference with His Holiness KarekinII in Holy Etchmiadzin and Yerevan from the 1st-5th of July 2015. The UK Chapter was present at last year’s assembly as well where representatives over 20 dioceses were present. It was an extremely successful event and ACYF UK were chosen to be teamed up with a sister ACYF which was Moscow. This is a very important project that His Holiness and Archbishop Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese USA and Director of the worldwide ACYF programme. Members of ACYF UK are very active with several events and projects and are always grateful for the physical and financial help and aid from their community.
