Armenia exhibition
Opens 23 October 2015 until 28 February 2016 | Admission free
ST Lee Gallery, Weston Library

Opening on the 23 October, the Bodleian Libraries stunning new exhibition celebrates over two thousand years of Armenian history. Through a sumptuous display of books, manuscripts and other materials from the Libraries' rich collections, the exhibition explores the great antiquity of Armenian culture, from its first mention during the reign of King Darius I (c.550-486 BCE) to the modern republic of Armenia and its diaspora.

The exhibition also marks the personal endurance and suffering that has befallen the Armenian people. 2015 marks the centenary of the genocide against the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire by the Young Turk government during World War I. In their honour, the Libraries are displaying over one hundred exhibits spanning two millennia of Armenian history, from rare coins and precious manuscripts to treasured objects of survivors of the 1915 genocide.
