Armenian News... A Topalian... Houses Without Doors
Houses Without Doors | March 27
Feature Documentary | 90' | Armenian with English subtitles
7pm Monday March 27, this screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Avo Kaprealian.
One hundred years ago, the Al Midan district of Aleppo was an area where many persecuted Armenians took shelter. Today, this neighbourhood remains home to many of the displaced who went there. Avo Kaprealian and his family are among these Armenian-Syrian families who are taking shelter in their apartment from the shelling of today’s war. With a small camera, Kaprealian documents the daily life amidst this conflict. From his balcony, onto the violent streets and in their home, he films the changes he is witnessing in his neighbourhood and among his family while thinking about the reoccurrence of history. He interweaves his personal footage with extracts from cinema history’s portrayal of the Armenian tragedy, illustrating the parallels between the Armenian genocide of yesterday and Syria’s reality today with memory, trauma and grief.
Directed by Avo Kaprealian, a theatre director, photographer and cameraman. This is his first feature documentary.

Remarks by President Donald Tusk after his meeting with President of
Armenia Serzh Sargsyan
Brussels: European Council has issued the following press release:
I am pleased to welcome President Sargsyan to Brussels today.
Armenia whose independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity we
support is an important partner for the European Union.
I am very pleased to announce today the conclusion of negotiations on
the new EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.
This new agreement will broaden the scope of our relations, taking
into account the new global, political and economic interests we share
and challenges we want to face together.
We are looking forward to stronger cooperation in sectors such as
energy, transport and the environment, for new opportunities in trade
and investments, and for increased mobility for the benefit of our
citizens.
We have discussed today our shared values including our commitment to
democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, which underpin the new
agreement and our future cooperation.
The EU is already the first trade partner of Armenia, its first
international donor and strongest supporter to reforms. We intend to
expand these relations further in the coming years and have encouraged
Armenia to continue reforms across a range of issues, including
economic development, the business environment, the judiciary, human
rights, the fight against corruption and measures to ensure free and
fair elections.
We also discussed the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict. The status quo is unsustainable. The conflict needs an early
political settlement in accordance with international law. It does not
have a military solution. The EU continues to fully support the
mediation efforts and proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
Mr President, thank you very much for coming to Brussels for your
visit, for all your efforts and for our cooperation.

Remarkable is that especially prices for the consumer products imported by those persons who are racing for seats in the National Assembly through the rating list of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (bananas, sugar, petrol, chocolate etc.).
It is not ruled out that the prices will continue rising with the increase of the sizes of election bribes.

An unfinished opera by Franz Liszt about a hapless, peace loving king is to be heard for the fist time after a British scholar deciphered the composers's fragmentary score.
Sardanaple, an opera based on a story by Byron, had been in archive for almost 170 years because experts assumed that the 111 pages were too haphazard to contain a workable piece of music.
......
An excerpt will be performed in June at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. Anush Hovhanissyan, a soprano who helped Dr Trippett to understand how the opera would sound, is in the final and will perform some of the music.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan wins third Goal of the Month award in a row
09 Mar 2017
Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s ability to produce sublime strikes for Manchester United has now won him a hat-trick of Goal of the Month accolades.
The Armenian was in award-winning form again at the beginning of February when he notched the best of United’s three efforts away to Leicester City. It also turned out to be the pick of all the Reds’ goals at different age levels last month, following a fan poll conducted here on ManUtd.com.
“I controlled the ball, I passed Robert Huth and then I had free space ahead of me,” said Mkhitaryan, when speaking to MUTV following the 3-0 win. “When I was in front of the goalkeeper, I saw the far post was open so I aimed my shot there and finally it went into the net.”
Mkhitaryan’s solo run and finish at the Foxes’ expense gleaned 41 per cent of the votes, to pip Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s EFL Cup-final free-kick (39 per cent). The Swede’s trophy-winning header was the supporters’ third favourite goal scored in February with nine per cent, leaving the other shortlisted strikes to sweep up the remaining 11 per cent between them.
Henrikh retains the Goal of the Month honour after winning it in January with a counter-attack in the cup win over Wigan and wowing us all in December with his scorpion kick against Sunderland.
