Azerbaijan launches deadly subversion along Line of Contact
03.01.15

Azerbaijan's armed forces provoked two subversive attaks in the
southern and eastern directions of the Line of Contact overnight.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army says in a press release that its
frontline subdivisions managed to push the adversary back to the
starting positions with losses,

But the military operations were not unfortunately without losses for
the Nagorno-Karabakh military either. Two Defense Army servicemen,
Karen S Grigoryan and Vardan M Mkrtchyan, were killed in the
retaliatory attack.

Another Armenian serviceman, Volodya G Harutyunyan, was wounded.

The Defense Army extends its condolences to the families, friends and
fellow servicemen of the diseased.

A probe into further circumstances is underway.

Armenia Joins Russia-Led Eurasian Economic Union
Jan. 02 2015

Armenia officially joined the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on Friday,
banding together with Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus in a Moscow-led
project meant to counterbalance the European Union.

As part of a deal signed last October, Armenia will have limited
representation in the organization until the end of 2015. Three
Armenian members will share one vote in the union's governing body,
the Eurasian Economic Commission, TASS news agency reported Friday.

Kyrgyzstan is also set to join the union on May 1.

Armenia's entry into the EEU means it will have to gradually
transition to a unified tariff system with the union's other members,
with 2022 set as the deadline for the full transition, TASS reported.

The country will have to negotiate with the World Trade Organization,
of which it is a member, on its changing obligations in light of its
new membership with the economic bloc of former Soviet republics.

The Armenian government had been set to clinch a free-trade deal with
the EU until, following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin,
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in 2013 abruptly decided to switch
to the Russian-led Customs Union, a precursor to the EEU.

Trade economist Alexander Knobel told The Moscow Times previously that
Armenia turned away from European integration after Russia offered it
the budget price of $170 to $180 per 1,000 cubic meters on its
all-important natural gas imports.

The Armenian economy is heavily dependent on Russia, the country's
largest foreign investor and trade partner as well as the source of
vital remittances sent home to Armenia by migrant workers.

Armenia has also cultivated a close political relationship with Russia
in order to secure itself against neighbors Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been entangled in a territorial dispute
over the Nagorno-Karabakh region and surrounding districts for
decades, with both Turkey and Azerbaijan erecting economic blockades
against Armenia in response to its occupation of the area. Tax-News

IMF Advises Armenia To Broaden Tax Base
By Tatiana Smolenska,
Tax- News.com, Moscow
02 January 2015

Armenia's plan to formulate a comprehensive tax code is an opportunity
to broaden the tax base and increase revenues, the International
Monetary Fund (IMF) has said.

It said that higher tax revenues are needed to fund increased social
spending and spending on growth-enhancing infrastructure projects.
Improvements to the tax system should aim to eliminate gaps and ensure
greater equity, it said.

The IMF noted that Armenia may receive extra revenues from the
Eurasian Economic Union's (EEU) common customs pool, but EEU tariffs
are expected to decline over the medium term. It commended what it
called the authorities' "cautious approach" to evaluating the
sustainability of these additional revenues prior to incorporating
them in the budget.

The IMF said that, at present, fiscal stimulus policies are
appropriate, given the nation's low fiscal deficit, but fiscal
tightening may be needed if the outlook for the country worsens. It
noted the importance of continuing to strengthen the capacity of the
tax authority.

The comments appear in the IMF's first review of Armenia's economic
performance as part of a three-year program under the Extended Fund
Facility (EFF). The review's completion enables the release of about
USD17m, bringing total disbursements under the arrangement to USD34m.

PM DavutoÄ?lu decries religious discrimination

Prime Minister Ahmet DavutoÄ?lu hosted the representatives of
non-Muslim minorities living in Turkey on Friday and stressed the
importance of taking a stance against all kinds of religious
discrimination.

DavutoÄ?lu hosted a lunch at the office of the Prime Ministry in
Ä°stanbul's Dolmabahçe palace that was attended by Ecumenical Fener
Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I; Francois Yakan, deputy
patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church; Peter Stefanos, vicar of the
Chaldean Patriarchate in Turkey; Yusuf Çetin, Turkish Syriac Orthodox
archbishop; Mehmet Paçacı, Turkey's envoy to the Vatican; Yusuf SaÄ?,
deputy patriarch of Turkey's Syriac Catholic Church; Levan Zekiyan,
archbishop of the Turkish Armenian Catholic Church; Ä°sak Haleva, rabbi
of the Turkish Jewish community; and Armenian Deputy Patriarch
Archbishop Aram AteÅ?yan.

Religious Affairs Directorate head Mehmet Görmez, Ä°stanbul mufti Rahmi
Yaran and general director for foundations Adnan Ertem also attended
the meeting.

Speaking before the lunch, DavutoÄ?lu said it was important to stand up
to any kind of religious discrimination. He stressed that when all
religious groups raise their voices against Islamophobia, they raise
their voices against all religious discrimination, not just
Islamophobia. The prime minister said that throughout the centuries
different religious groups have been the target of pressures and
insults from other religious groups. The prime minister said Jews and
Muslims in particular have suffered from this, causing tension between
different groups of people.

DavutoÄ?lu said the Turkish territory has been home to many different
religious and ethnic groups and that he doesn't like to characterize
these different groups as minorities, as they are more like family
members from different traditions.

The prime minister expressed sadness over recent attacks on mosques in
Europe and anti-Semitic tendencies around the world.

UK wants to support close relationship between EU and Armenia
04 Jan 2015

UK really wants to support a close and productive relationship between
the EU and Armenia, Ambassador to Armenia Katherine Leach told
Armenian News-NEWS.am, commenting on the future of relations between
Yerevan and Brussels.

"We have had a year of waiting and preparing, and now that Armenia
will finally join the Eurasian Economic Union from 2 January, I hope
we can move much more quickly to clarify those areas of cooperation
with the EU which are still possible and compatible. I know this work
is going on intensively right now," the diplomat said.

Katherine Leach underscored UK's willingness to support a close and
productive relationship between the EU and Armenia, particularly in
areas like economic reform, promoting business, building the
capacities of civil servants, fighting corruption, and further
promoting judicial and human rights reforms.

PHILATELIE-denial
Azerbaijan has on emissions Philatelic Armenian churches of
Upper Karabagh ... no mention of their Armenian origin!
Azerbaijan has issued November 25, 2014 a series of six stamps
dedicated to monuments, mosques and churches Karabakh. Each stamp has
a value of 0.5 manat. But this issue falls within the denial of state
of Azerbaijan as presenting churches and mosques, Baku wishes to
present to the world a culture of tolerance and religious plurality.

A denial stamp issue of Azerbaijan with Armenian churches of Upper
Karabagh ... no mention of their Armenian origin

The problem is that the two Armenian churches presented Khoudavank and
Gantsassar (the latter being the spiritual home of the Armenians of
Karabakh) does not mention their Armenian origin! Present two works of
the Armenian Heritage Karabakh without reference to their origin is a
purely revisionist approach whose goal is the confusion of
assimilating these elements Azeri heritage. Baku has thus inspired
Ankara which still features monuments, works or structures belonging
to the Armenian architectural heritage such Ani ... no mention of
their Armenian origin. Today Baku uses this same method to present
Armenian churches with mosques, thus sowing a much confusion voluntary
service to his denial machine.
