Highly recommended reading Review: ‘IN THE SHADOW of the SULTAN’ By R. P. SEVADJIAN

Right from the onset of holding the book I loved the feel and weight of this book, it has substance, as I flicked through the pages Sevadjian has made footnotes to help with the Armenian text and comprehension from a number of languages. The author’s notes are a good indication of the Centennial to the 1915 Armenian Genocide; this book is set in 1896 the back-story, which began well before 1915. In addition the glossary gives a wealth of knowledge in translation and the historical notes date back to the thirteen hundreds.

Designed and written for young readers, and those who are open to visually inspiration! The linear map, marks the various places where the story takes place giving a good indication of geographic awareness for young and old alike.

The Novel is deemed as a ‘Work of fiction’ the value lays in the writer’s opinion and memories, however, the events are personal as they occurred in reality to her family.

The young boy’s travels are gripping full of life experience, which gives him character, knowledge and maturity.

Sevadjian stays true to her word and writes about what appertains to her, she animates and conjures vivid images…Who is the boy?...I will let you read the book to come to your own decision, when
you have concluded, send me your feedback.
