A "confident" Houry Gebeshian earned praises on the international TV waves for her performance in Rio this morning ranking her among the best 50 women gymnasts in the world. It's a moment to be proud of. Congratulations Houry.
However, hearing from the same international sports commentator that Armenia is not financing the event nor any other sponsor, and the gymnast bears all the costs saddens me and it should sadden every Armenian.
Here is an Armenian athlete, born in USA and representing Armenia, our whole nation!
Where is the Sports' Federation of Armenia? Where are all the oligarchs? Any one of them could have financially supported this athlete many times over? Where are the Diaspora organizations who claim to support youth?
I am at loss in finding adjectives to describe them.

Keghart Interview with Gymnast Houry Gebeshian
Born in Cambridge, Mass. in 1989, gymnast Houry Gebeshian is a physician’s assistant in Cleveland, Ohio. She obtained Armenian citizenship in 2010. Due to her strong performance at the first (Glasgow, Scotland) and second round (Rio de Janeiro), she qualified to participate in the Summer Olympics in Rio. Unusual for a gymnast, she has no coach. “I coach myself…I create my own training plans, and diet plans,” she says. At 26, she is ten years older than most of her rivals.
Houry is the only female gymnast representing Armenian (from USA) at the Rio Olympic Games. She is financing her own bid for a medal. Please support her by clicking on Hooting For Houry .
The Poll question is located on front page in the right columnWill the movement initiated by Sasna Dzrer's taking over of the Erebuni police station impact Armenia governance?
