Extract from The Economist 0f 26 November
on Trump Organisation
'Deconstructing Donald'

Trump Inc 's record of finishing projects and picking partners
is patchy - a big development project in Baku, the capital
of Azerbaijan, has stalled for example.
In the same analysis, it mentions that a court case
verdict in China has unexpectedly gone Trump's
way after he was elected to be the next US president.

Worrying.

[this demonstrates that the loss of '800 metres' of land last April
is seen as a victory by the Azeris]

President Ilham Aliyev: April battles are our glorious history
3 December 2016

Trend:

“The April battles are our glorious history,” said President Ilham
Aliyev as he met with representatives of general public as part of his
visit to Tartar. The head of state praised heroism of the Azerbaijani
Army and Azerbaijani citizens during the April battles. The President
noted that the Azerbaijani Army gained military victory as they
repulsed the attack of the enemy. By conducting counterattack
operation from unfavorable positions, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces
liberated the territory of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous
Region - present Aghdere region, as well as large territories in the
direction of Jabrayil, Fuzuli from the occupation.

“For many years Armenia has been spreading lies and myths about its
army, suggesting that it allegedly has an invincible army. The April
fighting showed which army is actually invincible. The Azerbaijani
army is invincible.”

The President said that Azerbaijan not only showed its strength in
these battles and once again proved to the enemy and world that, we
will never reconcile with the current situation. “Nagorno-Karabakh is
our historic land. So are Shusha, Khankendi and other lands, which
remained under the occupation.”

“Our historical geography was very wide,” President Ilham Aliyev
said. The head of state added that Yerevan, Goyche and Zangazur
are the historical lands of Azerbaijan.

Dink case judge detained over Gülen probe
Dec 2 2016
ISTANBUL

One of the judges who is trying 35 suspects for the murder of
Armenian-Turkish journalistHrant Dink in 2007 was detained on Dec. 2
on accusations that he is tied to the Gülenist organization.

Bünyamin Karakaş, who did not attend on Dec. 2 hearing, was
apprehended by police teams while he was in his room at the Istanbul
courthouse. The detention came during a recess in the hearing in which
suspect Ramazan Akyürek was in the dock.

The court, gathering after the short break, decided to adjourn its
meeting for two hours due to Karakaş’s detention.

Karakaş was among 192 judges and prosecutors who were sought for
detention as part of a probe into Gülenists opened by Ankara
prosecutors on Dec. 1.

Some 55 of the legal personnel were serving in Istanbul.

A total of 191 judges and prosecutors out of the 192 were suspended
as part of the investigation, said a judicial source.

No administrative actions were taken against one suspect because he
had retired although he remains on a wanted list.

The suspects were said to be serving at first-degree courts.

To date, more than 3,600 judges and prosecutors have been dismissed
since the July 15 coup attempt that left 248 dead and nearly 2,200
wounded.

The Gülenist organization, led by U.S.-based Islamic preacher
Fethullah Gülen, is accused of orchestrating Turkey’s July 15 coup
plot.

In the Dink case, hearings against former Police Intelligence
Department personnel began on Nov. 28.

Dink was shot dead at the age of 52 in broad daylight outside the
offices of the Turkish-Armenian weekly newspaper Agos in central
Istanbul on Jan. 19, 2007.

Ogün Samast, then a 17-year-old jobless high-school dropout, confessed
to the murder and was sentenced to almost 23 years in jail in 2011.

But the case grew into a wider scandal after it emerged that the
security forces had been aware of a plot to kill Dink but failed to
act.

Expert calls for more serious anti-poaching measures
04.12.16

Bardukh Gabrielyan, Director of the Institute of Hydroecology and Ichthyology, Academy of Sciences of Armenia, welcomes the decision banning fishing in Lake Sevan December 1 to 25.

Ensuring application of the ban is the most important thing to do now.

“But on December 2 I saw fish on sold by shops. How can they sell fish if the decision was made on December 1? It means the decision remain on paper, without any concrete measures taken,” Mr Gabrielyan said in an interview with Tert.am.

He welcomes construction of fisheries that meet the highest standards. However, without proper anti-poaching measures, no results can be expected.

“On the one hand, we are developing fishery, on the other hand we do not ensure satisfactory anti-poaching measures,” Mr Gabrielyan said.

He does not accept the arguments that fishing is the only means of living for the local population. Rather, a month’s interval will prove much more beneficial to the people.

With respect to Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan’s latest visit to Gegharkunik, Mr Gabrielyan said:

“It is commendable that the premier has paid his attention to the sector, but professional opinions should be listened to.”

Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijanis to return to historical lands
4 December 2016

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the country does not eye
present day territory of the Republic of Armenia.

“We have no intention to return either Iravan or Mehri or Gorus
through militarily,” said President Aliyev as he met with
representatives of the general public as part of his visit to the
frontline district of Tartar.

“But I am confident that the time will come and we, Azerbaijanis, will
return to all our historical lands,” he added.

“We will achieve this through conducting a consistent policy,
peacefully,’ the president said. “All objective factors demonstrate
that this day will come. We should just work to hasten that day. How
should we do it? We should be stronger.”

The president said international law has almost been a fiasco.

“Power is the main factor now,” the president said. “This is the
reality, and we live in this real world. So we must be more powerful,
we must build a stronger army.”

“Our economy must grow stronger,” the president said. “Our economy
must develop at a more rapid pace. Our development must speed up. Our
population has increased and will continue to increase even in the
years of crisis.”

“In a year or two Azerbaijan`s population will reach 10 million,” the
president said. “This is a stable tendency, and the growth will be
even bigger in the years ahead.”

President Aliyev also said that the Armenian population is decreasing,
which, he added, is caused by both natural reasons, migration,
hopelessness, despair, arbitrariness.

He said that in fact the incumbent fascist regime in Armenia created
unbearable conditions in the country.

“Therefore population in this country will continue to decrease,
people will leave the country as they are doing now,” he added.
