Armenia’s People-Power Revolution, Russia & the Western Bloc By David Boyajian, Massachusetts, 4 May 2018 As we write this, massive peaceful civil actions against Armenia’s establishment have continued under the leadership of Nikol Pashinyan, a National Assembly (N.A.) member who is part of the opposition Yelk (Way Out) Alliance. Though widely unpopular Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan has been forced to resign, his Republican Party (RPA) still has a narrow majority (58 of 105) in the N.A.  Most observers believe that the RPA members were elected through fraud, bribery, and intimidation. The RPA’s politicians and oligarchs are also generally blamed for stealing billions of the country’s wealth; violating civil rights; debasing the judiciary and civil service; keeping the talented Armenian Diaspora at arm’s length; and failing to successfully address Armenia’s many problems: corruption, a less-than-robust economy, unemployment, outward migration, and more. A bright spot: Landlocked Christian Armenia and its brother Artsakh/Karabagh Republic survive, even though blockaded by genocidal Turkey and Turkic/Muslim Azerbaijan who outnumber Armenians by 90 million people.  This miracle is due to the tenacity of Armenia’s people and armed forces. ....Read more>> A Man and Three Monuments By Jirair Tutunjian, Toronto, 3 May 2018 Nicolai Romashuk Hairabedian of Assen, Netherlands is an indomitable patriot. The sixty-five-year-old former Jerusalemite, who has lived in Holland for more than forty years, is a veteran activist par excellence for the Armenian Cause. After intense lobbying of the Assen municipality, several years ago he received permission to install a Genocide monument in that city. He then successfully lobbied to erect a monument in honor of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink who was assassinated by a Turkish extremist in Istanbul in 2007. Both monuments (khachkars, stone crosses) were made in Armenia. Hairabedian paid for the construction and shipment of the volcanic tufa stone monuments. Several years ago he also found time to persuade the Amsterdam municipality to name a historic bridge after the Armenians. The renowned general was reluctant to speak publicly about the details of what advice he would give to the new prime minister and the minister of defense. Ter-Grigoryants, former First Deputy Minister of Defense and Acting Minister of Defense of Armenia, was a key figure immediately before the 1992 war in organizing the military into an effective force and developing the country's military doctrine which emphasized the role of motorized brigades to allow for operational mobility and flexibility.
