American Grassroots Beats Greenbacks

Dear Friends,

With a vote of 27 to 21, the influential House Foreign Affairs Committee today took a major step toward ending U.S. complicity in Turkey's denial of the Armenian Genocide by adopting H.Res.106, the Armenian Genocide Resolution. This action came despite an intense campaign of threats and intimidation by the Turkish government and its lobbyists in Washington, DC. You helped make the difference!

Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Tom Lantos (CA-12, S.F. and South S.F.) and fellow Bay Area Representative Lynn Woolsey (CA-6, Marin & Sonoma Counties) voted in favor of the resolution. In her comments during the hearing, Congresswoman Woolsey spoke of two survivors of the Armenian Genocide who reside in the Bay Area, 105 yr-old Hayganoush Markarian, and 100 year-old Nevart Karagozian, and displayed their photographs.

The Committee's decision opens the way for full House of Representatives' consideration of the measure. We must work together to capitalize on the momentum from today's victory to advance H.Res.106 to a full House vote.

Please take action today calling the following Congressional members to thank them for voting for H.Res.106 in the House Foreign Relations Committee.

Chairman Tom Lantos: (202) 225-3531 and (650) 342-0300 or (415) 566-5257

Representative Lynn Woolsey: (202) 225-5161 and (415) 507-9554 or (707) 542-7182

Also, please call Speaker Nancy Pelosi at (202) 225-5161 or (415) 556-4862 to thank her for all her support of the Armenian Genocide Resolution and urge her to schedule a floor vote on H.Res.106 immediately.
