A PUBLICATION OF ARMENIAN DEMOCRATIC LIBERAL PARTY, WESTERN DISTRICT COMMITTEE OF THE UNITED STATES
The Name Of Boca Raton Walkathon To Raise Public Azerbaijan Tries
Armenia’s New Prime Minister Is Known
Awareness Of Armenian Genocide
Infiltrating Into Karabakh
The name of Arme- nia’s new Prime Minis- ter is already known. According to the reli- able sources of Slaq.am, President Serzh Sargsyan will ap- point Hovik Abrahamyan Prime Minister. Our sources inform that the National As- sembly incumbent Speaker Hovik Abra- hamyan will be replaced by the Republican MP, former head of the RA President’s Ad- ministration Karen Karapetyan.
BOCA RATON, FL – An upcoming walkathon in Boca Raton will mark the 99th commemoration of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, whereby 1.5 million Armenians were systematically exterminated by the Ottoman Turkish Empire during World War I. Event proceeds will go towards genocide awareness, community outreach and advocacy for more comprehensive genocide education in Florida public schools.
nities all over the world. By planning highly visible events such as this walkathon, we are throwing open the door to all who wish to learn more about us, our culture, and the genocide that took our an- cestors from us. As the saying goes, ‘all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.’ We must raise our voices together to condemn not only the Armenian Genocide but also the Holo- caust, the Assyrian, Greek, Ukrainian, Cambodian, Rwandan and Darfur geno- cides, among others.”
According to sources, Tigran Sargsyan and Hovik Abrahamyan had met and everything had been decided before Sargsyan's resignation. Thus, the fact of Hovik Abrahamyan’s appointment to the position of the Prime Minister had been de- cided before Tigran Sargsyan’s resignation.
The Walk Against Genocide, a two- mile walk which will take place Saturday, April 12 at Mizner Park, is organized by the Armenian Genocide Commemoration (AGC) Inc., a nonprofit organization com- prised of representatives from various Ar- menian American organizations and churches in South Florida. The mission of the AGC is to educate the public about the first genocide of the 20th century — and that genocide continues to occur in modern times, all over the world. In the past few weeks, Armenians have watched history repeat itself as foreign Islamic extremists sacked the predominantly Christian Ar-
Today, the Armenian Genocide remains the second-most studied genocide event, after the better-known Jewish Holocaust of World War II. In fact, when Adolf Hitler was asked how the world would respond to his “Final Solution” plan --- the extermi- nation of the Jewish people in Europe --- he replied, without compunction: “Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?” Turkey, the successor state of the Ottoman Empire, has yet to acknowl- edge the Armenian Genocide, despite re- peated calls from historians and world leaders. Over 20 countries and 40 U.S. States officially recognize the Armenian Genocide committed by Turkey, including the State of Florida.
STEPANAKERT. – The adversary car- ried out yet another diversionary intelli- gence operation. The operation was carried out on Monday at around 10:30pm, in the southeastern (Marjanlu) direction of the Line of Contact between the Karabakh- Azerbaijan opposing forces.
In fact, Hovik Abrahamyan will be ap- pointed Prime Minister the next week, when he returns from Moscow.
The NKR Defense Army position-hold- ing units, however, took counter actions and drove the Azerbaijani army members back to their starting positions. While with- drawing, however, the adversary gave three casualties—one of which, an officer— and six others were wounded as they stepped on the landmines that were placed in the defensive sector of a minefield.

“US Strike In Syria Wouldn't Be Devastating”
Washington - A threatened, but averted, American missile strike to punish Syria's govern- ment for a chemical weapons at- tack last summer would not have been powerful enough to change the course in the Syrian civil war, Secretary of State John Kerry said Tuesday, in an attempt to deflect criticism that the U.S. hasn't done enough to stem the violence there. Under pointed questioning by a Senate panel he used to chair, Kerry said the scrubbed strike would
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon: Prevent Armenian Genocide In Kessab, Syria
Turkey is once again target- ing Armenians by initiating their death and dislocation in Kessab. On 24th of April in 1915, the first phase of the Armenian massacres began with the arrest and murder of nearly one hun- dred of intellectuals of Armen- ian origin. Subsequently, Armenians worldwide commemorate the April 24th as a day that memorializes all the victims of the Armenian Genocide. There were approximately two million Ar- menians living in the Ottoman Empire on the eve of 21st century. More than one and a half million Armenians perished between 1915 and 1923. International powers who back Syria's opposition have described the plans to hold elections as a "parody of democracy" that would destroy peace talks.
Syrian Information Minister Omran Zoabi nevertheless said elections would not be delayed and that military operations would continue regardless of the poll, Saudi-owned daily Al-Hayat reported on its website on Tuesday. Continuing Our Support To The Armenian Community Caught In Syrian Crisis
To My Teacher With Love By Alice Krumian
To you, who gave me the key and the courage, To open the doors of wisdom and knowlege, And taught me to write the Armenian letters, By holding and guiding my shaky fingers.
You used different ways to teach me to count, But said doing my best is always what counts; You became my pillar of support and guidance, And difficult endeavors became light and joyous.
From the very confines of a tiny classroom, You exposed the class to the world's kingdoms; You expanded my knowledge and my memory, When you put in my hands a book of history.
You were as patient as a loving mother, And yet as strict as a demanding father; You were always there when help was needed, You praised us warmly when we succeeded.
You awakened in us the joy of learning, And the wish to try again until succeeding; You never thought of us: "This one is a lost case, "I certainly have no time on that one to waste."
You taught us from your heart with tremendous care, Correcting our papers to the detriment of your health; You became a true candle and consumed yourself, By inspiring each of us and illuminating our way.

The latest turn of events in Syria’s ravaging war has focused on the largely-Armenian city of Kessab. With Islamist fighters pouring in across the Syria-Turkey border, Kessab’s Armenian population has been forced to flee like deportees to the neighboring city of Latakia.
From the very start, the Armen- ian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) has been committed to the relief efforts in Syria and continues to follow the course of events daily. We have mobilized volunteers, dis-

tributed medical supplies, and material re- sources, raising over $1.7 million. Together, with all other Armenian organizations in the diaspora, as well as the government of the Republic of Armenia, we will pursue re- lief and resolution across humanitarian and diplomatic channels.
The war in Syria is now well into its fourth year and this inhumane tug of war has claimed more than 140,000 lives. While the international community has been closely following the course of events, no diplomatic solution is in sight, and the mas- sive humanitarian crisis across the region is stretching thin the capabilities of the United Nations relief operations, not to mention the limited resources of various Armenian organizations helping the Syrian Armenian community caught in the crisis.
For Kessab, especially, we will push for an international diplomatic effort that re- stores and protects the demilitarized status of the region, allowing for the return of dis- placed Armenian families to their homes and land immediately. We restate our un- wavering support and hope the broader AGBU family will do the same. We owe our brothers and sisters in Kessab and Syria nothing less.
But for the Armenians across Syria – and especially for the Armenian population of Kessab – the issue transcends its hu- manitarian implications. For Armenians, this is the loss of a historically significant ancestral territory where they have lived for centuries. Here Armenians have been rooted in the land, which is their rightful property and has been the source of their livelihood for generations.

From Crimea To Kessab: Did The West Approve
The Attack On Kessab? By Hagop Koushakjian
Kessab seemed a peaceful, sleepy town far removed from the Syrian civil war that has been raging for the past three years. Then, early on Friday morning, the major- ity Christian Armenian populated town awoke to the sounds of rockets and gunfire, forcing 670 Armenian families to flee in haste to nearby Latakia, leaving behind the sick and the elderly. From what we know now, the town was attacked by Al-Qaeda related Al-Nusrah Front Islamist terrorists that crossed the Turkish border with the support and approval of the Turkish au- thorities. Turkey’s role was clearly evi- denced by the fact that the Turkish military shot down a Syrian fighter jet that was pro- viding air support to the regime’s forces. The downing emboldened the jihadists to carry out their raid on Kessab Armenians.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s decision on September 3, 2013 to join Rus- sia’s Customs Union instead of the EU Eastern Partnership, after two years of ne- gotiations, was not welcome news to the West. Then the referendum in Crimea to have that region join with Russia was as- sessed positively by Yerevan, hailing the self-determination right of the regions Russian majority. Then on March 27, the UN General Assembly voted 100 to 11 on a non-binding resolution declaring the Crimean referendum invalid. Armenia, considering the Karabakh factor, was among the 11 nations. In addition, the Re- public of Armenia has developed close eco- nomic ties with Iran offsetting the 20-year blockades of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
All this was viewed negatively by the West, it appears, prompting US Ambassa- dor to Armenia John Heffern to call Arme- nia’s UN vote “regrettable.” James Warlick, the US representative at the OSCE Minsk Group, also voiced his displeasure for Ar- menia’s pro-Russian stand vis-à-vis Ukraine. Taken together, this latest move on Crimea seems to have irritated the US. It is as though Armenia has crossed a red line.
The March 21 attack on the historic Ar- menian coastal town of Kessab was a shock to the Armenian nation worldwide.
The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books began in 1996 with a simple goal: to

So why was Kessab a target and why now?
The Syrian civil war is ground zero for the latest East vs. West international proxy war and it is well known that NATO mem- ber Turkey is providing Al-Qaeda terrorists and other foreign fighters with arms, med- ical supplies and safe border access to Syria. Which begs the question, is the West calling the shots in Kessab while offering assurances that these jihadist butchers will respect minorities and their holy places of worship?

On March 29 the US State Department called last week’s unprovoked attack on in- nocent Armenian civilians “deeply trou- bling.” Deputy spokesperson Marie Harf said, “we have seen some statements by groups fighting in Kessab saying they will not target civilians and will respect minori- ties and holy places. We expect those com- mitments to be upheld.” Interestingly, spokesperson Harf was careful not to use the word “terrorists” when referring to the foreign fighters that attacked Kessab. She referred to them as “groups,” downplaying the terrorist element of the attackers.

Kessab is located in the far northwest- ern part of Syria with no military strategic significance. Which brings us back to the question, why Kessab, why now? It can easily be argued that Kessab was the price the Armenian nation had to pay for their close ties with Russia and Iran.
Let us be delighted by the appearance of beloved and admired artists, who are volunteering their time for the sake of the Armenians of Kessab, who had to flee their ancestral homes to survive.

Turk Intellectuals Who Recognized The Armenian Genocide
Able to work the rich farmland of Art- sakh and have a ready market for their products, farmers will be take care of their families and will have every reason to stay. The improved connection between differ- ent parts of Armenia will be a boon to re- gions inside the country, as well.
Halil Berktay (born August 27, 1947 ) , is a Turkish historian and social scientist at Sabancı University and columnist for the daily Taraf. He is the son an intellectual Turkish Communist family. As a result of his family's influence, Halil Berktay re- mained a Maoist for two decades, before becoming "an independent left-intellec- tual".
Roads. They connected the edges of the Roman Empire, allowing armies and trade to travel freely, with relative ease, as needed.
Gegharkunik, land of the majestic Lake Sevan, has a climate best suited to growing potatoes but with the new highway, the abundant fruits and vegetables farmed in northern Artsakh will have a new and ac- cessible market where there is a demand for its products.
After graduating from Robert College in 1964, Berktay studied economics at Yale University receiving his Bachelor of Arts in 1968 and Master of Arts in 1969. He went on to earn a PhD from Birmingham Uni- versity in 1990. He worked as lecturer at Ankara University between 1969–1971 and 1978–1983.Between 1992–1997, he taught at both the Middle East Technical University and Boğaziçi University. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard University in 1997, and taught at Sabancı University before return- ing to Harvard in 2006. His research areas are the history and historiography of Turk- ish nationalism in the 20th century. He has also written on the construction of Turkish national memory. In September 2005, Berk- tay and fellow historians, including Murat Belge, Edhem Eldem, Selim Deringil, con- vened at an academic conference to discuss the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
Two millennia later in the United States, they connect the country’s vast territory so that someone can get on the Interstate 5 (or, “the 5” if you’re from California) in San Diego and not get off until after they reach Canada. Or, jump onto Interstate 10 and take it all the way to Florida.
The impact of the road also extends into tourism. As Artsakh makes itself a more at- tractive destination for adventurous travel- ers, the regions of Karvachar and Shahumyan are prime candidates to bene- fit from an increase in visitors. Over fifty years ago, US President Dwight Eisenhower, in explaining the need for a network of roads, said, “A modern, ef- ficient highway system is essential to meet the needs of our growing population, our expanding economy, and our national se- curity.”
According to Radikal newspaper (Is- tanbul, June 30, 2000), Nese Duzel asked Berktay in an Interview " The Armenian genocide question has again been put on the agenda. In Turkey this subject is taboo. We cannot even discuss it amongst our- selves. No one fully understands the mat- ter's internal dimensions or where these claims originated. In what year and how he events that are the subject of the genocide claim began? Prof. Berktay replied that "Violence reached its peak in 1915 but these were events that had continued since the 1890s. That is to say that the events began much before the 24th and 25th of April 1915, which the Armenians symbolically mark as a national day of mourning. On the 24th and 25th of April the leaders of Ar- menian organizations in Istanbul were ar- rested". As an answer to another question he sais " In that period 1.75 million Arme- nians lived in eastern Anatolia. The official decision to expel the Armenians made by the military regime of the triumvirate was organized in a way to include without ex- ception the entire Armenian population of the region. (3)
Today, Armenia needs a highway sys- tem that will help to expand its economy, ensure its national security and, in turn, allow the population to grow. Armenia Fund is working toward these goals by building the Vardenis-Martakert Highway.
Berktay has uncovered that the Turkish government purged many of the evidence's and documents regarding the Armenian Genocide found in the Turkish archives. According to him, the archive cleansing was “most probably implemented by Muharrem Nuri Birgi, a former Turkish ambassador to London and NATO, and Secretary General of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.” Berktay also claims that “at the time he was combing the archives, Nuri Birgi met regularly with a mutual friend and at one point, referring to the Ar- menians, ruefully confessed: ‘We really slaughtered them.’(1)
The highway is going to connect what will be an integrated transportation net- work open to every kind of vehicular traf- fic. When complete, the roads connecting the Republic of Armenia and the Artsakh Republic will allow for a free flow of people and goods between communities.
Following the comprehensive and lengthy project bidding and decision process, construction began immediately. In mid-February, as weather conditions im- proved, crews started working on the road – and it has already started making a dif- ference.
Based on the experience with the Goris- Stepanakert Highway – the first major pan- Armenian effort to rebuild the country – the positive impact on local communities will be significant.
As of the first week of March 2014, 150 people have been employed and by sum- mertime, that number will double to around 300 people working on the project. In total, before the highway is even opened to the public, over $30 million will have been injected into Armenia’s economy.
the potential to positively impact economic development.

Symbolically, the Vardenis-Martakert Highway, once connected to the other transportation arteries in Armenia and throughout the region, will form a circle. It is the culmination of a multiyear, pan-Ar- menian effort to strengthen and develop Armenia – an effort that is the source of pride and renewed national confidence.
In an interview with K.Muradian (Aztag Daily- Beirut, Nov. 12, 2005,), Prof. Berktay said "I had been saying in Turkey and in other international forums that in some sense what happened in 1915 was genocide or it was proto-genocide or, even leaving aside the word “genocide”, It was clear that the Armenians of the Ottoman Empire were rounded up, socially deraci- nated and deported, and, therefore, in the process, comprehensively uprooted and dispossessed, for no other reason than that they were Armenians and it was very clear that simultaneously, extra-legal secret or- ders for massacres to be organized were
As a supporter of open dialogue in Turkey regarding the Armenian Genocide and Turkey's denial, Berktay has received threats in his country.(1)
A project to rebuild the road destroyed during the Artsakh War through incessant shelling by Azerbaijan, the first highway was an $11 million investment, all of which was spent in the country.

Visitors can only tour the monastery with a guided tour provided once per day at 3:30 in the af- ternoon.
The gardens of the islands are colonized with roses. So what do you do when you have an abundance of roses on a small is- land? You make a jam from rose petals. The 72-mile-long highway will make it easier for agriculture products from the northern regions of Artsakh, including the 30 villages along the road, to reach the eco- nomic center of Yerevan and beyond. Whereas it currently takes approximately 6.5 hours to reach Yerevan from the border region of Martakert, it will now take less than 4.5 hours.

The 1915 Armenian Genocide: Finding A Fit Testament To A Timeless Crime
As the last survivors die out, academics must consider how best to create a lasting memorial to the 1.5 million who were murdered By Robert Fisk
The very last Armenian survivors of the 1915 genocide – in which a million and a half Christians were slaughtered by the Ot- toman Turks – are dying, and Armenians are now facing the same fearful dilemma that Jews around the world will confront in scarcely three decades' time: how to keep the memory of their holocausts alive when the last living witnesses of Ottoman and Nazi evil are dead?
which 22,000 children who had lost their parents were cared for by foreign NGOs, in- cluding the American Near East Re- lief fund.
the Armenian genocide – the Armenians were "victims of the chaos of war" is their fearful excuse. But an Armen- ian "role of ho- nour" would place Turkey's holocaust "de- niers" in a dif- ficult position: could they re-
which a few were forced to become – they would have survived. But the common bond that we today share with the dead is our common humanity. The final horror of these genocides does not lie in the racial origins of the victims – that, in a sense, is to play Hitler's game and that of the Young Turk pashas who massacred the Armeni- ans.
At a recent conference in California, Ar- menians have been discussing how to maintain the integrity of their historical tragedy in hundreds of years to come – when even the grandchildren of the sur- vivors and victims have gone. Like Jews in Israel, Europe and America, the Armenians have amassed tens of thousands of docu- ments, photographs, digital recordings of survivors' testimony and files from Ot- toman archives showing the orders for the destruction of Turkey's Ottoman Chris- tians. But will that be enough, in 500 years' time, say, to separate the unique wicked- ness of the Armenian genocide – and, by extension, the Nazi destruction of the Jews – from all the other mass crimes against hu- manity in history?
Thou- sands of chil- dren emerged from their un-
The absolute and total historical mem- ory of these appalling historical facts can, I suspect, only be perpetuated for hundreds of years by more closely associating the vic- tims with ourselves. I have argued with Jewish readers over this. Some have in- sisted that by identifying the Jewish victims of the Holocaust as identical to Europe's present-day non-Jewish peoples, the world would be denying the very Jewish identity of the six million dead. The Armenians, for various cultural, historical – and perhaps religious – reasons, have not taken this view. They are more inclined to accept that their victimhood should be shared.
There are direct links between the Ar- menian and Jewish holocausts.
Turkish academics are now themselves acknowledging the truth. Inside Turkey, many men and women are discovering that they have Armenian grandmothers – the very same women and young girls who were taken, or kidnapped, by Muslim men and shipped to their homes during the genocide.
Israelis use the same Hebrew word, shoah (holocaust), for the liquidation of 1.5 million Armenians in 1915, as they do for Hitler's killing of six million Jews in Eu- rope. The two events, despite the numeri- cal difference in the total dead, have much in common. The Armenians were told they would be "resettled" in other lands of the Ottoman empire, before being deliberately sent on death marches of rape, pillage and mass slaughter across the deserts during the First World War. Their homes and prop- erty were confiscated, hundreds of thou- sands of Armenian men were separated and slaughtered with knives and axes in ravines by "special units" of the Ottoman government – the equivalent of Hitler's Einsatzkommandos in the occupied Soviet Union – while their women and children were robbed, violated, starved to death and butchered by the roadside.
But how to perpetuate for ever the uniqueness of these holocausts of the 20th century? I recall how, at a Muslim confer- ence in Chicago, a Turkish man approached a stand where an Armenian was selling books on Middle East history, one of them
After years interviewing Armenian sur- vivors – and Jewish Holocaust survivors – I am not certain how the continuum of memory can be protected into coming cen- turies. The suffering of the Armenians and Jews is surely something beyond tears, a tragedy that should remain engraved in history forever – despite our disposition to lose interest in the crimes of ancient history. Who now mourns for the Huguenots or the dead of the Hundred Years War or the mass victims of Ghengis Khan? The Armenians and Jews of the 20th century, however, were the first victims of industrial geno- cide, a crime fuelled by nationalism.
speakable ordeal blinded by trachoma after drinking contaminated water. "The sand would get into their eyes and doctors would have to open their eyelids and scrape the sand from their pupils," re- searcher Missak Keleshian said.
Several junior German officers training Ottoman forces in Turkey witnessed the death marches and – in some cases – the re- sults of mass killings. Some of these Ger- mans later turned up as senior Wehrmacht officers in the Jewish killing fields of Be- larussia and Ukraine after the Nazi occu- pation of the Soviet Union in 1941. Hitler himself asked "who now remembers the Armenians?" – before urging his generals to unleash

But how to extend the "life" of these memories be- yond the still just-living world of the survivors?
If there is a message that will last for hundreds of years, perhaps it has to be fo- cused on the absolute conviction that these people were our people. Their fathers and mothers and brothers and sisters were our fathers and mothers and brothers and sis-

Because of the quarter- century gap between the two holocausts, the Armenians have far less movie footage and far fewer photographs and documents than, for ex- ample, the Yad Vashem Holocaust memo- rial outside Jerusalem.

silience of our fellow world citizens. Recognition of Turkey’s atrocities toward the Armenian people in 1915 is a necessary step in that process. An injury to one is an injury to us all.”
I have personally interviewed dozens of Armenian survivors – all now dead – who described the rape and murder in front of them of their sisters and mothers. One elderly Armenian lady told me of how Turkish gendarmes piled up babies and set them on fire; her mother tried to console her child by explaining that the cries were "the sound of the babies' souls going up to heaven". The Armenian conference in Cali- fornia watched graphic evidence of how the Turks "Islamised" Christian Armenian children in an orphanage north of Beirut; some of the small, starving inmates stayed alive only by grinding up and eating the bones of other children who had died.
Armenian and Jewish scholars have long collaborated and advised each other on the collection of witness testimonies and documentation of their suffering. Although the Israeli government, to its shame, still does not recognise the Armenian suffering as a genocide, Israel's top genocide re- searcher thinks otherwise, recognising that the Ottoman Turks were deliberately at- tempting to destroy an entire race of their people.
This is the archetypal argument of the anti-Semite who denies the Jewish Holo- caust. Blame the victim, not just as the cause of his own suffering, but as the per- petrator. Yet the vital element that was missing in this atrocious argument was not the identity of the victims, but the compre- hension that the victims were human be- ings like you and me.
A traditional Armenian performance by renowned musicians Joe Zeytoonian and Myriam Eli will take place following the walk, and food and refreshments will be provided. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., while the walk starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Mizner Park Amphitheater, located at 590 Plaza Real in Boca Raton.
Armenians have for some years de- bated whether to open their own "book of the righteous", to honour those brave Turks who tried to save Armenian lives – at mor- tal danger to themselves and their families – in just the same way as the Israelis ac- knowledge those gentiles who risked their lives to save Jewish victims of Hitler dur- ing the Second World War. There are two advantages to this: the first, and most im- portant, would be a truthful declaration that not all Turks supported the genocide, and that there were men – soldiers, gen- darmes and, in at least one case, a Turkish provincial governor – who redeemed their country's honour by refusing to participate in this monstrous war crime of 1915.
Surely that was why my own mother insisted that the first book I should read on myown–attheageofeight,Ithink–was the diary of Anne Frank, the German Jew- ish girl who was betrayed to the Nazis, along with her family, in her hiding-place in Amsterdam, and sent to Belsen where she died of typhus. Anne's story was pro- foundly moving for millions around the world, not because she was Jewish but be- cause she reminded every reader, Jewish or otherwise, of their own sisters and cousins and daughters. Indeed, Anne reminded them of themselves.
Registration for the Walk Against Genocide is $19.15, including a T-shirt and a bottle of water. Children under eight years old may participate for free. To learn more, sponsor a walker, make a donation or sign up for the event, please visit http://www.walkagainstgenocide.com.
The principal focus of the international conference at the Ararat-Eskijian Museum in California last month, in which I also participated, was to honour "those who helped rescue a generation of Armenians between 1915 and 1930" and included graphic footage of the largest home for child survivors after the genocide: a con- verted Tsarist barracks at Alexandrapole in
Secondly, the Turkish government still today, shamefully, refuses to acknowledge
I am not suggesting that the Armenian and Jewish identities of the victims of two great holocausts of the last century – with their total dead of 7,500,000, perhaps more –should be diminished. The Jews were murdered because they were Jews and thus doomed under Hitler's racist regime. The Armenian Christians were killed by the Turks because they were Armenians. Had they been Muslim Ottoman citizens –
