The medieval monastic edifice of Sanahin is located in the Sanahin village, in the Lori region of Armenia, currently within the town of Alaverdi. In 1996 Sanahin was declared a World Heritage Site... But I love Sanahin for another reason... My 10th birthday was celebrated by my teachers, classmates and parents touring Sanahin and Haghpat, another old monastic complex in the area, and picnicking on the grounds of one of these churches...
