Today daring the unusual traffic congestion due to the closure of DVP – one of the major arteries in Toronto – around two hundred Toronto Armenians gathered at the Queen’s Park – Ontario’s parliament – to voice their solidarity with the civic movement in Armenia. Predominantly young participants along with their older brethren carried flags and banners # Մերժիր Սերժին (Reject Serzh) in reference to former president and present prime minister of Armenia.

We, Armenians living in the Diaspora and our non-Armenian friends,  are deeply concerned in the imprisonment of Nikol Pashinyan, editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak ("Armenian Time") daily in Armenia, and his treatment in jail........

Faced with local or national crisis most Armenians go into two modes these days: “Let’s not wash our dirty laundry in public” or  “Exposure is the first step in resolving a crisis.” In the past few months a scandal—immense, terrifying and excoriating—has crashed into our national public arena. It’s no less than the management style and reputation of the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II. As catholicos, he is not just the spiritual leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church, but is almost as important to the Armenian Nation as the president of Armenia. If history has any advice to us it is resisting outside infiltration as best as we can.
Much has been said and yet not said about the recent presidential election in Armenia. Protagonists of both sides try to point fingers towards their respective opponents for the tragedy that occurred on March 1, 2008 in the streets of Yerevan resulting in 8 people dead and many wounded. The authorities are in no retreat at all, but in damage control by misinforming the public; at least one leader of the opposition is widening the scope of demands calling for an “international” investigation of what transpired.
