** FATHER FRANK’S RANTS Rant Number 764 14 March 18 TRAITORS & ROGUE STATES

TRAITORS, RUSSIA, BRITAIN AND CHEMICAL WEAPONS: A TRICKY HISTORY.
------------------------------------------------------------
‘If I had to choose between betraying my country and betraying my friends I hope I should have the guts to betray my friends’, wrote novelist E.M. Forster. But what when you betray both your friends and your country? Like the Russian spy Sergei Skripal, nerve-gassed in Salisbury, about whom the British regime and its slavish media are kicking up a storm? What then?

Sentimentality about traitors was never a British trait. Centuries past, people like Forster would have been hung, drawn, quartered and, yes, castrated, too. Recently, simple hanging would have been his lot. A noble Irish patriot like Sir Roger Casement was tried and executed because, to promote Ireland’s freedom, he embraced Germany’s cause in WWI. ‘Lord Haw-Haw’ (William Joyce), another Irishman, was hanged for broadcasting in favour of the Reich in WWII.  Britain also executed another anti-Bolshevik, pro-German toff, John Amery, ‘the bravest man I ever hanged’, the hangman said. Traitors threaten the security of the state, that was Britain’s rationale for killing them. But what when, like Skripal, they had threatened the security of the Russian state, eh?

‘There isn’t a war on between the two countries’ you’ll object. Going from the hysteria, the frenzy UK Gov and media are whipping up (‘Ultimatum to Russia’), you’d think Russia has dropped a thermonuclear bomb on Salisbury. Does World War Three loom? A German fool interviewed on the BBC openly advocated a retaliatory NATO cyber attack on Russia. Maybe the Panzers and the SAS could back that up with some covert operations on Russian territory? All to distract attention from Britain’s impending Brexit debacle, perhaps, cynics might infer. And the fearful crisis in this dislocated society. The doctors, the nurses, the teachers, the cops, the carers, the homeless, the local counsellors (I am channelling Labour’s John McDonnell, haha!), all tell the government to change course. Maybe hopeless PM Theresa fancies the March Hare’s solution: ‘I am tired of this. Let’s change the subject. What about a jolly war with Russia instead?’ Quite likely, I thought. In the end she has chickened
out. Only a few expulsions and bits and pieces. Is the old British lion now toothless?

‘Russia is rogue state’, the British regime’s creeps cry out. ‘Russia has invaded Ukraine, Crimea, Georgia…’ Britain of course has invaded no one…why do the names Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya keep beating about my head? This very democratic nation has devastated those hapless countries, handing them over to continuing chaos, civil war and terrorism. Their peoples have been martyred. All very safe for Brits, of course. A matter of dropping bombs and missiles from high altitude and…presto! The job is done. What’s wrong with the British regime? Its history could well be summed up with a phrase: ‘a history of bombing’. Bombing the innocent, especially. And when Britain does not bomb directly, it does it by proxy. It delegates the job. It sells warplanes, missiles and bombs to the Saudi tyrants who for years have been butchering the people of Yemen. Who is the rogue state, pray?

Who gassed Skripal? God knows but, buried in the sea of convulsive media rhetoric about Putin, you come across a tiny info nugget. The poisoned spy was ‘close’ to Christopher Steele, ex-MI6 agent who compiled the infamous, unverified ‘dodgy dossier’, tying Trump to Russia. And of course Skripal way back was recruited by MI6 – and well paid - to spy on his own country and friends. Do you smell a rat? A poison-bearing rat called British Intelligence? (Or the Yanks, maybe?) Some folks outlandishly speculate that Skripal never left working for the GRU. That his Russian imprisonment, subsequent exchange, all that, was planned in Moscow! To plant him eventually inside enemy espionage. Until he was spotted. Was the poisoning an MI6 revenge job, then? Crazy, totally crazy but…there are more things in heaven and earth…geddit?

Chemical attacks are barbarous, sure. The Brits would never…wait a minute. Didn’t Churchill gas the Commies once? In the summer of 1919 ‘the greatest Briton’ ordered and executed a brutal use of chemical poison on Northern Russia.  Two years before, General Allenby fired 10.000 cans of the hideous stuff at the Turks in Gaza. And in 1920 again the British Army again used gas against Iraqi Arabs. ‘I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes to spread a lively terror’, Churchill said. Of course, that was a century ago but…can the leopard change its spots?

A few British-based anti-Putin Russians have mysteriously come to a sticky end? Yet, I seem to recall few individuals connected with Princess Diana also dying in less than clear circumstances. Were those deaths really properly investigated? Well, at least no one will try to smear Russia for them. The poor, dear Princess’s enemy were not outside but inside the British Establishment, the Royal Family…oh, don’t get me going on that one, please. Only, if my body is one day discovered ‘suicided’…don’t believe it!

In Dante’s Inferno it is not rapists or sex abusers who are relegated to the lowest pit. It is traitors. Betrayers of their kindred, their country and their lords. Most foul of all is Judas Iscariot. The renegade apostle who betrayed Christ to the Jewish High Priest for thirty pieces of silver. Immersed in ice, frozen forever and cut off from every human contact or relationship, Judas is eternally mangled by Satan’s bloody fangs. Dante conceived the devil too as a traitor to God and so it is fitting that treachery should gnaw treachery. Traitors of all countries, may the poet’s vision serve you as a warning of the fate to come!
