Among other fields, the defence should be carried out actively within appropriate international organisations, to which this petition will be addressed. The core of the arguments and requests

With 150,000 speakers and 3 000,000 potential speakers the Western Armenian Language is a non-territorial minority language according to the standards of the Council of Europe (ref. CE, ETS-n148), according to the UNESCO, this language is among the ones in danger of speedy extinction. It is distinctly different from the Eastern Armenian, the official language of the Republic of Armenia. The speakers of the Western Armenian Language are scattered all over the world and this Diaspora is ultimately responsible for its survival as a living language, not the Republic of Armenia. Therefore, as in the case of other minority or regional languages under your protection, we request that :

1. You create a position for an expert in the Western Armenian Language, from the Western Armenian Diaspora, to be included in the present group of experts under your jurisdiction, and

2. establish a channel of communication between the speakers and supporters of the Western Armenian Language and other groups engaged in the protection and the development of other regional or minority languages,

3. At an appropriate time agreeable to you we can suggest names of experts and groups of people who can provide you information to protect the Western Armenian Language.
