The announcement of the Protocols and their repercussions in the Armenian Diaspora triggered the impetus among Armenians living outside the motherland to re-evaluate their role and Armenia’s position regarding Hay Tad. It is now widely believed that the leadership in Armenia has abandoned Hay Tad and the struggle to pursue a just resolution of Armenian land claims and the recovery of personal and national property. In the ensuing national discourse it has become almost irrelevant whether the negative perception is accurate.

More than a year after the American elections, there are still some people who are fighting the result of November 2008--if the messages that I am sent and forwarded are anything to go by. I no longer tell the senders to get a life and do something useful, but I do read some of the messages, now and then, and continue to be fascinated by them.

I don't receive any messages from Armenians still lamenting the death of the first Armenian republic, in 1920, but I knew they were still around. Now, I have proof, with the report from the "Western Armenian National Congress" [WAN-C].....Read more >>

A friend informs:

Anna Kasyan, opera star and our Armenian pride in Diaspora, has been nominated for the prestigious “Victoirs de la Musique” 2010 award in Classical performer category! This is the first time that a non-French national has been nominated, and the voting is conducted online at http://www.lesvictoires.com/classique/vote.htm until 29 January 2010. Who will win out of the three nominees, will depend on the results of this online voting. (She really is the best of the 3, but there are already practices of unfair competition against her).

How to vote:

Anyone with an e-mail address can vote by going to that webpage and putting a dot under Anna Kasyan’s name and one of the instrumentalists in the row above. Then one needs to fill in one’s Surname, Name and enter e-mail address twice and accept the conditions by ticking the first box. After you click “VALIDER” a verification e-mail will be sent to you, containing a link. Once you click that link in your e-mail, your vote will be counted as valid. (it’s a pretty easy and fast process even for non-French speakers like me).

People in France can also vote by telephoning 08 92 68 22 33 (costs 0,34 euro/minute)

I know that today Armenians face a whole variety of problems, but we must not overlook our cultural aspects and support our confidently rising stars especially in classical music, where we have a long and established history.

For more information, please visit Kasyan’s newly launched website at www.AnnaKasyan.com

or join her support page on http://www.facebook.com/pages/Anna-Kasyan/106834709214

Many thanks and wishing you a Great Year in 2010,

GK
