Armenian peacekeepers returned from Afghanistan bypassing Baku

The aircraft of German armed forces carrying the first group of the
Armenian peacekeepers has landed in Yerevan.

The Armenian troops have served under German command as part of the
NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) since 2010
beginning in the Afghan province of Kunduz. The Armenian servicemen
have been ensuring security of the airport in Kunduz.

On August 18, Azerbaijan did not allow a German plane flying from
Afghanistan to Armenia to enter its airspace. However, the plane flew
to Cologne, Germany, and the Armenian peacemakers returned to Armenia
from there.

The RA Minister of Defense views it as an attempt to disrupt the
supply to NATO forces in Afghanistan and block the use of Armenia's
airspace and airports for transportations to Afghanistan. At present
the Armenian side is discussing necessary steps to prohibit the access
to its airspace for planes carrying military cargoes to Azerbaijan.

Armenia has never blocked flights of the aircrafts heading from Turkey
to Azerbaijan, as well as those heading from Azerbaijan to Afghanistan
and back.

British lawmaker could be `blacklisted' in Azerbaijan

BAKU - A British lawmaker could be blacklisted by Azerbaijan's Foreign
Ministry over an illegal visit to the Armenia-occupied Upper (Nagorno)
Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

Elkhan Polukhov, the ministry spokesman, told Radio Liberty that the
Azerbaijani embassy in Britain was scrutinizing reports on Steven
Pound's visit, which were circulated by the Armenian media. If the
reports are confirmed, Pound will be announced `persona non grata' in
Azerbaijan, Polukhov said.

The British MP reportedly met during his visit with Ashot Gulyan, head
of the separatist regime's National Assembly.

Nagorno Karabakh is an Azerbaijani region occupied by Armenia since a
1994 cease-fire ended separatist hostilities that killed an estimated
30,000 people and ousted about one million Azerbaijanis from their
homes. Armenia continues to occupy Nagorno Karabakh and seven other
Azerbaijani districts in defiance of international law. Years of peace
talks have brought few tangible results.
