Jivan Avetisyan was born in Gyumri and raised in Artsakh. Throughout his childhood years, he listened to stories of hardships endured by his family and villagers of Artsakh. Jivan spent his childhood dreaming to make a film about his birthplace one day. He wanted to share the importance of people from his homeland in the world.
For the last ten years, Jivan has carried out his dreams to showcase Artsakh to the world. Jivan created numerous documentaries, short films, feature films such as Tevanik and The Last Inhabitant., and now his much talked about feature film Gate to Heaven.
To date, the film Tevanik, has been screened in over 25 countries and has participated in countless film festivals winning numerous international awards around the globe, including in China, Greece, Italy, Russia, and United States. This gave Jivan and his team an opportunity to put Armenia and Artsakh on the cinema festival platform worldwide.
The Last Inhabitant was considered for the 74th Golden Globe Awards (2017). We held a private screening of The Last Inhabitant for the Golden Globe members of the 2017 Golden Globe Awards for Best Foreign Film at the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles in October of 2016.
Film was recognized by A-Class International Film Festivals around the globe including Shanghai and Venice International Film Festivals (2017); Awarded Best Feature Film at the Scandinavian International Film Festival in Helsinki, Finland (October 2017); Awarded Best Actor for our Armenian actor Alexander Khachatryan at the Scandinavian International Film Festival (October 2017). Lastly, our International Sales Agent whose efforts include distributing the film around the globe landed our first sale, licensing The Last Inhabitant film by HBO Eastern Europe. Film continues it's participation in several international film festivals up to now.
Jivan jan, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I wish you endless success in your personal life and professional career. I am extremely proud of all your accomplishments and what you continue to strive to do for our HOMELAND. It is my privilege to work with such an amazing talent and an ambitious filmmaker who has fought so hard for ARTSAKH through films. I have no doubt that Gate to Heaven will reach greater heights and will bring much deserved international attention to Artsakh. and recognition. We have always said: "Let's take Artsakh to the world and bring the world to Artsakh".
