HAYASTAN ALL-ARMENIAN FUND (HAAF)& CHARITABLE TRUST OF GREAT BRITAIN (HAACT)

21st Annual REMINDER (January 2013-December 2013) http://www.himnadram.org Dear Compatriots, We hope that you had the opportunity to read our January 2013 report, and were able to have some idea about our multi-faceted humanitarian efforts and reconstruction programmes in Armenia and Artsakh. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all those Armenian Organisations, Trusts and individuals who acceded to our request and sent us their National Voluntary Giving for the year 2013. We appeal to those of you who have not yet participated this year to support HAAF and HAACT by sending us your contributions. Those of you who donated to the Fund during 2012 will find enclosed an official receipt from the HAAF's Executive Committee in Yerevan. Projects to be financed in 2013-2014 by HAACT Great Britain a) Construction of Kindergarten in Sasunik Village, Aragatsotn region. Project in design stage. Project cost $350,000: financed by HAACT GB ($250,000) and Sasunik village mayor ($100,000). Sasunik village was founded as a collective farm in 1955, and villagers were resettled from the old town of Sasunik in 1960. Most of the residents of the village are the descendants of immigrants from Western Armenia, who settled in Verin Sasunik near Kosh. During Soviet times, the district of Nor Sasunik was established with a number of residential buildings. These were privatised by the members of the community following the Independence of Armenia. The availability of housing was one of the core reasons for the majority of the original residents of Verin Sasunik to move and settle in the present village called Nor Sasunik. In 1990, several dozen refugees from Baku and Sumgait settled in Karin. Currently, the total population of Sasunik village is 3919, which includes the 800 residents in Karin. A number of projects aimed at assisting the resident refugees were implemented by international organisations. Karin is the home to a plant nursery specialising in decorative trees, famous throughout Armenia for its quality product. There are two schools in the village. The majority of the village children attend School N1, with 283 students, and named after the freedom fighter Geghaznik Mikayelyan (Chaush). The second school, with 121 students, is located in Karin district and was established with the support of Fridtjof Nansen’s granddaughter. viticulture, cattle breeding and horticulture. In contrast to some other villages of Armenia, migration is not an issue as most of the residents are able to sell their produce and make a living working their land. The factory of Armenia wine is located in the village. The wine is currently considered one of the top new wine brands – effectively competing with established brands such as Areni and Vernashen. More than 100 people from Sasunik and Karin are employed by the factory. Built in 1965, the old and dilapidated building of the former kindergarten was in 1998 certified as unsafe and not adequate for further use and the kindergarten stopped functioning. The community of Sasunik also incorporates the village of Karin in its suburbs. The main occupation of the residents of the village is ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Trustees Bishop Vahan Hovhanessian, Hon President. The Sasunik village mayor is ready to allocate an area of 1500-2000 square metres for construction of the new kindergarten to be attended by 80-100 children (computer generated graphics shown as well as floor plans). Just across the road from the proposed site of the new kindergarten, the construction of a church is currently underway. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Trustees Bishop Vahan Hovhanessian, Hon President. Project ongoing: Arin village, Vayots Dzor Region. Cost: $1,819. Project financed by donation from Richard Anooshian (£1,170). As part of the ongoing effort to reach out to the border villages of Armenia and Artsakh where access to goods is problematic, school consumables will be delivered in Vayots Dzor region to 55 pupils at Arin village secondary school. These include rucksacks, stationary supplies, textbooks, exercise books, sketchbooks, colour paper, colouring books, play dough, water-colours, rulers, scissors, bow compasses, calculators, maps and numerous other everyday stationary items. Construction of 114km long Vardenis-Martakert Highway According to Decision 164 of the HAAF Central Board of Trustees 22nd meeting of 30/05/13 in Yerevan, funds raised at the November 2013 Telethon will be allocated towards the Vardenis-Martakert highway. This is a direct link between the northern regions of Armenia and Artsakh and has a crucial economic and humanitarian importance. The construction and upgrade of the highway will have a direct positive impact on the lives of the communities it will pass next to and, on a larger scale, on the overall socio-economic climate in the beneficiary regions. The direct beneficiary communities of the highway are: Vaghashen, Astghadzor, Zolakar, Vardenik, Tsovinar, Artsvanist, Karchaghbyur, Tsovak, Torfavan, Shatjrek, Shatvan, Totk, Charektar, Getavan, Verin Horatagh, Drmbon, as well as the towns of Vardenis, Kharvachar and Martakert.
