Koutoujian Supporters Continue Pushing for Victory Hours Before Polls Close


WALTHAM, Mass. (A.W.)—Voters residing in Massachusetts’ Fifth District are going to the polls today for the Democratic primary of the special elections to fill Senator Edward J. Markey’s seat in the US House of Representatives. Armenian American activists also hit the streets canvassing for Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian’s campaign. They spoke with potential voters about the issues Koutoujian stands for, encouraging them to go to the polls.

WORCESTER, Mass. (A.W.)—Historian Taner Akcam recently received the Middle East Studies Association’s (MESA) 2013 Hourani Book Prize for The Young Turks’ Crime Against Humanity: The Armenian Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in the Ottoman Empire.

MESA’s statement reads: “We award the 2013 Hourani Book Prize to Taner Akçam’s for ‘The Young Turks’ Crime Against Humanity: The Armenian Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in the Ottoman Empire,’ a compelling work of scholarship that provides the strongest historical argument to date regarding the Armenian Genocide. WATERTOWN, Mass.—With less than 24 hours to go until the polls open in the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), building on weeks of local and national campaigning, is making a final push to encourage supporters and activists nationwide to reach out to friends and family in this district to deliver strong voter turnout for Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, in what is expected to be a tight seven-way primary battle.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tues., Oct. 15. Information about polling places is available at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/.
