OBITUARY: ABP. AGHAN BALIOZIAN, PRIMATE OF AUSTRALIA
In a letter by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, addressed to His Grace Bishop Vahan Hovhanessian, Primate, we were informed earlier this morning of the passing away of His Eminence Abp. Aghan Baliozian, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Australia and New Zealand. Archbishop Aghan Paliozian passed away this morning in Sydney, Australia, having suffered a heart attack. Abp. Baliozian (baptismal name Yeghia) was born on 18 August 1946 in Aleppo, Syria. He was ordained to the diaconate on 28 May 1966, and was ordained as a celibate priest on 28 July 1968 by then Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Yeghishe Derderian, and given the priestly name of Aghan. On 4 November 4 1971 Father Aghan received the rank of Archimandrite (Vardapet) in the St. Mesrop Mashtots Church in Oshakan, Armenia, by the Grand Sacristan of the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin, Archbishop Haykazun Abrahamian. In October 1981 he was appointed as the Primate of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand by His Holiness Vasken I. EXHIBITION – ARMENIAN ARTIST IN LONDON
An Armenian artist by the name of Christine Anserlian who is a Masters Degree student in Applied Imagination In The Creative Industries at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, at the University of the Arts, London, will be taking part in the exhibition “No More Fear” in London starting this Tuesday, 26 September till Saturday, 29 September in Menier Gallery, 51 Southwark Street, London SE1 1RU. AREV – CHILDRENS PLAY GROUP AREV Children’s Play Group, for Pre-School to 7 years old children, will have its monthly play day next Sunday, 30th September, at St. Sarkis Church. 11:30am Storytelling and programme in Nevart Gulbenkian Hall; 12:30-12:45 children and parents attend church service. ST. SARKIS BAKE SALE – RAISING FUNDS TO SUPPORT ARMENIANS IN SYRIA
The St Sarkis Parish Council is hosting a cake sale on 30th September 2012 in the Gulbenkian Hall after Badarak, to raise money for Arnenians in need in Syria. Please do come and buy delicious home-made cakes!! Donations of Cakes for sale will be most appreciated. Please bring them to the Gulbenkian Hall on the day by 12 noon.
FEAST OF THE EXALTATION OF THE CROSS IN LONDON:
The Information Centre of the Primate’s Office of the Armenian Church of Great Britain and Ireland has released a new video clip of the celebration of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross at the St. Sarkis Church in London, presided over by His Grace Bishop Vahan Hovhanessian, Primate.
