ABPDERDERIAN  REPRESENTS  THE  CATHOLICOS  IN  CANTERBURY  
HEAbpHovnanDerderian,   Primate   of   the   Western   Diocese   of   the   Armenian   Church   in   the   USA,   represented  His  Holliness  Karekin  II,  Catholicos  of  All  Armenians  at  the  Inauguration  ceremonies  of  Justin   Welby  as  the  Archbishop  of  Canterbury.  The  ceremonies  started  with  an  impressive  procession  of  leaders  of   the  various  churches  and  religious  denominations  in  the  UK  and  around  the  world.  In  his  sermon,  the  new   Arch␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣There   is   every   possible  reason  for  optimism  about  the  future  of  Christian  faith  in  our  world  and  in  this  country.␣␣Present   at  the  ceremonies  were  HRH  Prince  Charles  and  the  Duchess  of  Cornwall,  and  Mr.  David  Cameron,  Prime   Minister.  A  tea  reception  and  dinner,  hosted  by  the  Nikean  Club,  followed  the  church  ceremonies  which   lasted  almost  two  hours.  Participating  in  the  ceremonies  were  also  AbpMousheghMardirossian,  representing   the  Great  House  of  Cilicia,  Anelias,  and  Bp  Vahan  Hovhanessian,  Primate,  representing  the  Council  of  the   Oriental   Orthodox   Churches,   of   which   he   is   the   President   and   has   issued   a   statement   on   this   happy   occasion.Click  here  to  read  ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣  
SUCCESSFUL  SECOND  ANNUAL  CHURCH  ASSEMBLY    
Last   Sunday   the   St   Sarkis   Armenian   Church   in   Kensington,   London,   was   the   host   of   the   second   Annual   ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣Let  your  light  shine  ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣t  5:16).   Following  the  fellowship  hour  after  Badarak,  the  faithful  returned  to  the  church  to  register  and  receive  a  copy   of   the   printed   Annual   Report   which   included   reports   from   the   Primate,   Armenian   Church   Youth   Fellowship,   Armenian  Church  Trust  UK  (ACT-­UK)  as  well  as  the  six  church  communities  in  UK  and  Ireland.  Following  the   welcoming  remarks  by  Dr  Paul  Manook,  Chairman  of  the  Assembly,  the  reports  were  presented  one  by  one.   After   each   report,   those   present   were   invited   to   discuss   the   report.   HG   Bp   Vahan,   especially   dwelt   on   the   ACT-­UK  report,  and  urged  the  faithful  to  ask  questions  to  the  chairman,  Mr  Jonathan  Mouradian,  and  share     questionsthey  might  have  heard  from  friends  or  acquaintances.  A  detailed  financial  statement  was  presented   by  ACT-­UK  which  included  elaborate  income  and  expense  reports.  At  the  conclusion  the  Primate  urged  the   faithful   to   be   actively   involved   in   the   church   ministry,   focusing   on   creative   ways   of   sharing   and   living   our   faith  to  bring  hope,  harmony  and  love  to  our  families,  parishioners  and  the  church  community.

THIS  SUNDAY  IS  DZAGHGAZART    PALM  SUNDAY  
        This  Sunday,  24  March,  Armenians  celebrate  Palm  Sunday,  the  feast  commemorating  the  victorious  entry   and   voluntary   return   of   our   Lord   to   Jerusalem.   According   to   the   Holy   Bible,   our   Lord   was   greeted   at   the   gate   of   the   city   with   palm   and   olive   tree   branches.   Because   of   this,   the   Armenian   Church   blesses   and   distributes   branches   of   olive   and   palm   trees   on   this   day.      Palm   Sunday   marks   the   end   of   the   Great   Lent   ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣ Jerusalem,  initiated  the  unfolding  of  the  final  events  in  His  life,  which  led  to  His  Crucifixion,  death  and   resurrection,   the   cornerstone   of   our   salvation.   Therefore,   on   Palm   Sunday   Armenians   offer   the   Service   of   ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣   ␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ curtain  opens  and  the  priest  enters  the  altar,  symbolizing  our  entry  to  the  Kingdom  of  God.

CATHOLICOS  ATTENDS  POPE  FRANCISS  IN
AUGURATION  
  
His   Holiness   Karekin   II,   Supreme   Patriarch   and   Catholicos   of   All   Armenians,   was   in   the   Vatican   Last   Tuesday,  19  March,  2013,  participating  in  the  inauguration  ceremony  of  Pope  Francis.  At  the  end  of  the   ceremonies,   His   Holiness   met   with   the   Pope   and   congratulated   him   personally.   The   Catholicos   of   All   Armenians   was   accompanied   by   His   Eminence   Archbishop   Nathan   Hovhannisyan,   Director   of   the   Publishing   Department   of   the   Mother   See,   Bishop   HovakimManukyan,   Director   of   the   Interchurch   Relations   Office,   and   the   Staff-­Bearer   of   His   Holiness,   Rev.   Fr.   AnanyaTsatooryan.   Participating   in   the   ceremonies   were   the   heads   of   other   churches   including   the   Greek   Orthodox   Church.   Meanwhile,   locally   here   in   the   United   Kingdom,   HG   Bishop   Vahan   Hovhanessian,   congratulated   HE   Archbishop   Vincent   Nichols   on   this   happy   occasion   and   issued   a   statement   on   behalf   of   the   Council   of   Oriental   Orthodox   Churches  in  Great  Britain,  of  which  he  is  the  honorary  President.  Click  here  to  read  ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ to  Abp  Nichols  and  here  to  read  his  statement  on  the  occasion  of  the  election  of  Pope  Francis.  Dr  Harry   Hagopian,   who   is   th␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣ occasion  which  can  be  read  by  clicking  here.
