Newly elected Pope has friendly ties with Argentinean Armenia



Argentinean Armenian community was happy to hear about election of new Pope, noting that Archbishop Bergoglio had friendly ties with the Armenian community.
He also participated in the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide, was present at the liturgy conducted by Catholicos of All Armenians.
Seven years ago Archbishop Bergoglio urged Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide, RFE/RL Armenian service reported.
In the social networks Argentinean Armenians expressed hope that he would preserve his position.
The massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire were termed as genocide by Vatican under Pope John Paul II.
