I met these women last year in the old Armenian district of Zara, a town in the region of Sebastia, Western Armenia. The century-old home behind them is similar to one that my grandmother might have lived in. (I never found her actual home).

Sebastia, and the Armenian provinces of Kharpert, Diyarbakir, Erzerum, Van, Bitlis, and Kars, are all featured in my latest book Historic Armenia After 100 Years.

  Matthew Karanian There's very little left in Sebastia that can be traced back to Armenians, Denise Lansing. I did not travel to the village you mentioned (yet). Maybe next year!
