Raffi Hovannisian was the first Foreign Minister of the post-Soviet Republic of Armenia, and is currently a member of Armenia's parliament. A California native and son of renowned Armenian History scholar Richard Hovannisian, Raffi Hovannisian is himself highly educated and accomplished, graduating from UCLA with a degree in History and Near Eastern Studies, a Master's degree in Law and Diplomacy from Tufts University, and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University. Hovannisian has dedicated his academic and professional life to the Armenian Cause. He is the founding director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies in Yerevan, leads the Heritage political party, and founded the Armenian Bar Association, in addition to having served in many other professional capacities in Armenia and the Diaspora. In continuously writing, speaking, and participating actively in the highest levels of the political process, he has contributed significantly to the development of civil society in Armenia. We welcome him to Hye Tad Evening and look forward to his especially informed and unique perspective on Armenia's current condition and important recent developments in Turkish-Armenian relations.

The Bay Area Armenian National Committee is a grassroots public affairs organization serving to inform, educate, and act on a wide range of issues concerning Armenian-Americans throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The Bay Area ANC, or “Hye Tad” committee has been an important presence for Armenian-American political action in the Bay Area for decades. Our efforts span a wide range: meeting with political representatives and diplomats about issues affecting our community, participating in local campaigns, publicizing the Armenian Cause and educating the community, forging partnerships with other human rights organizations, fighting historical revisionism, and promoting recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The Bay Area ANC, alongside many other ANC chapters across the country and the world, is working to make Armenian-American interests effectively part of the political dialogue of our governments and of our own community. We plan to continue these efforts, and we encourage your participation in the process. Together, “Hye Tad” and YOU will meet the challenges before us.
