Today's victory
Dear friends
We just took on the Turkish and defense lobbies, and won. Earlier today the House Foreign Affairs Committee, over intense attacks and after hours of debate, voted 23-22 to pass the Armenian Genocide Resolution. It's about midnight, after a full day of rounding up support on Capitol Hill (we're counting votes at right) and I've just left our last post-vote meeting. I'm writing this note as I check out the news on CNN, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and across the internet. It's clear to me why we won this battle, despite millions of dollars in Turkish lobbying, Ankara's hysterical threats, and a last minute attack by Hillary Clinton and the Obama Administration. We won because of you and dedicated people like you around the country. Your time and energy, along with your faith and financial support made the difference. As you'd expect, our victory today sparked an even angrier Turkish backlash, starting with the withdrawal of their Ambassador. Ankara and its allies are already ramping up their next round of attacks to block the Resolution from coming before the full U.S. House. We will win the war for truth and justice, not because we have the most money, like Turkey, or the best access, like its lobbyists Dennis Hastert and Dick Gephardt. We'll win because we have truth on our side, and you on our team. We are blessed to have devoted Armenians like you who stand for justice and - with your secure on-line donations - make sure we have the financial resources to fully leverage our grassroots activism. So, right now, please send $50, $100, $500, $1,000 or whatever you can afford. I'm asking for your help so soon after today's vote because we're a grassroots group that counts on thousands of folks like you to chip in a little so that we can, together, make a big difference. No benefactor bosses, corporate interests, or government funds - just Armenians who care enough about our future to help us take on some of the most powerful interests in Washington and the world. The stakes are high, and getting higher. Our opponents are trying to defeat us. But with your help, we will prevail. With warmest regards, Ken Hachikian Chairman P.S. Please send us your secure on-line donation of $50, $50, $100, $500, $1,000 right away so that we can take advantage of the powerful new opportunities today's vote has opened for the Armenian Cause. 1711 N Street NW, Washington, DC 20036
