Eva Rivas was born on July 13, 1987 in Rostov, Russia. During her school years, she actively participated in the school’s social life, winning a number of awards. In elementary school she was the solo singer of the Armenian choir. In the years 1996-2004 she was a soloist with one of the most famous ensembles in Rostov called “Arevik”, as a member of which she sang both classical and popular songs, in Russian and other languages. As a soloist, Eva was repeatedly a laureate in different contests. In the year 2000 the ensemble “Arevik” was awarded as “Ensemble of the Year”. In 1997 the ensemble gained a “National” title. Astonishing everybody with her performances both within the ensemble and as an individual artist, Eva won the “Grand Prix” in the junior song contest “Scarlet Flower”. During the first junior Russian Delphi games in 1999 in Saratov, while performing an Armenian song from the repertoire of Rosi Armen, Eva was awarded two silver medals. In 2003 “Arevik” ensemble was awarded a diploma in the First Pan-Russian Contest of variety artists and Eva won a diploma in the contest of patriotic songs organised by Nadejda Babkina. In the same year she graduated from the studio “Image Elite” and became one of the leading models of the studio. She was awarded the title of the “Little beauty of Rostov”. At the age of 13 measuring 1.80, she gained an exclusive right to participate in the adult beauty contest and was awarded the title of “Miss Talent”. 2005 marked as a year of new achievements in the life of Eva Rivas. She was awarded the titles of “Golden Voice of Rostov”, “Miss Pearl of Don”. She was also crowned “Vice-Miss of the Caucasus” in Yerevan. In 2005 she won the first prize in the annual ceremony “Armenian Song of the Year”. A year later Eva became prize-holder of the festival “5 stars” held in Sochi. In 2005 she got acquainted with Valeriy Saharyan and in 2008 started cooperating with “Armenian Production”. At present “Armenia Production” have taken charge of her promotion and creative on and off-stage presence. During the 4th National Annual Ceremony “Tashir 2009” Eva sang “Tamam Ashkharh”, one of the most difficult and oldest works of Armenian composer Sayat-Nova. Avetik Isahakyan’s “Lanjer Mardgan” was soon added to her repertoire, which will be included in her Sayat-Nova CD to be released soon. Ruben Matevosyan has been overseeing her efforts in making an impact in the Armenian music scene. In 2009 world-acclaimed director of video-clips and movies Bookhadir Yuldeshev shot “Tamam Ashkharh”, whose crew traveled to Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia and Uzbekistan over a period of 17 days, gaining sensational critics and wide acclaim. |

Gibrahayer e-magazine 7 April Nicosia - Following the extensive repairs that the old Armenian Cemetery underwent in the past years, the Armenian Prelature of Cyprus has announced that in terms with the Diocesan Council's decision, a Divine Liturgy and Memorial Service will be held in the Sourp Boghos chapel of that cemetery on the Sunday following Easter. 10:00 am on Sunday, 11th April will mark the first time for almost five decades from the time the chapel was used and almost eighty years after the cemetery fell into disuse; the renovated chapel and its environs will welcome the faithful, who will attend the Liturgy and the subsequent "Merelots" Memorial dedicated to the souls of the departed. The Prelature has also announced that no services will be held on that day at Sourp Asdvadzadzin cathedral, and that all memorial requests and "gdag" memorials will be conducted at Sourp Boghos chapel. |
GENOCIDE CONFERENCE TO BE |
Asbarez - ANKARA, Turkey - On April 24-25, a symposium on the Armenian Genocide, titled “1915 within its pre- and post-historical periods: Denial and Confrontation,” will be held in Ankara. Organised by the Ankara Freedom to Thought Initiative (AFTI), the symposium will not only address the history, but explore issues like the confiscation of Armenian property and reparations. Confirmed participants include Ragip Zarakolu (publisher), Recep Marasli (author of The Armenian National Democratic Movement and 1915 Genocide), Sait Cetinoglu (activist and writer), Dr. David Gaunt (genocide scholar, author of Massacres, Resistance, Protectors: Muslim-Christian Relations in Eastern Anatolia During World War I), Dr. Henry Theriault (professor of Philosophy, Worcester State University), and Khatchig Mouradian (Doctoral student in Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Clark University; editor, the Armenian Weekly). Dedicated to the memory of Hrant Dink, the symposium will comprise of four sessions: a) the Armenian Genocide from a historical perspective, b) official ideological denial from the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) to Kemalism, c) Turkification of the Economy and the issue of the confiscated Armenian Property, and d) what needs to be done and how? |

THE SO-CALLED TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS TO DISCUSS Gibrahayer - emagazine - 1 April 2010 - A small political party of the far left, represented by Ragip Levent has announced that in the next session of the so-called Assembly of the TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) he will submit a resolution for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, honouring the survivors of the Armenian Genocide who fled to Cyprus in the beginning of the 20th century. Levent said that Armenians and Turks lived in harmony for decades and as Turkish Cypriots who witnessed the influx of the Armenians to Cyprus have the moral obligation to make a statement towards history. "As we are all trying to make a fresh start with the solution of the Cyprus problem, we as Turkish Cypriots must do our bit, towards our Armenian Cypriot compatriots" Levent concluded. The so called Parliament of the TRNC will discuss the Armenian resolution tomorrow on April 1 at 11:00am |
