Khatchaturian Film Screening at SFPL - This Thursday!

Dear Friends,

Please join the San Francisco Public Library and the Bay Area ANC at the film screening of "Khachaturian" on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 6:00 pm in the Koret Auditorium located on the lower lever of the San Francisco Public Library's Main Branch at 200 Larkin Street.

Filmed in 2004, Peter Rosen's award-winning documentary pays tribute to famed Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, who was lauded for his patriotic music before being denounced in the late 1940s (along with Shostakovich and Prokofiev) for anti-Soviet "formalism." Archival film footage, interviews with family members, and readings by Eric Bogosian from Khachaturian's memoirs are featured. Musical segments include excerpts from the ballets "Spartacus" and "Gaynah" (with its memorable "Saber Dance"), and Mstislav Rostropovich performs "Cello Rhapsody."

This event is free and open to the public.
