Will Turkish Ambitions in Syria Trigger Fall of Neo-Ottomanism?

The so-called “Arab Spring” in Syria has pushed Turkey into political and economic – and possibly military quicksands.

Recently, Turkey was caught red-handed in its endearing relationship with Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, and Ankara was widely criticized in European, Western and Middle Eastern Media.

Turkey’s eagerness to exploit religious extremism to pursue its neo-Ottoman ambitions and advance its economic interests has become all too obvious to friends and foes alike. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s boastful declarations to “rid Syria of his former ally President Bashar Assad,” have turned into a protracted political war.

California Courier

When Turkey’s Foreign Minister met secretly with a group of Armenians in Washington last month, he wooed them with his sly smile and sugar-coated words. This was the fake facade of traditional Turkish diplomacy.

Last week, Turkey’s UN Ambassador in New York revealed the nasty and aggressive face of his

Inhumanity – An attempt to explain it
By Herbert Molano

As Glendale and other cities throughout the world schedule the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Turks nearly 100 years ago, we are often asked why? Why the inhumanity?

We are getting closer to the answer. Unlike the sporadic newspaper stories that surfaced of that genocide during the Great War, we can now witness nightly the level of atrocity men are willing to perpetrate on their fellow men. We can now dig faster and deeper into the psychic of these perpetrators.

We have lived to see how despotic rulers foment distrust within their borders to keep themselves in power. It is an all too common ploy to entice ethnic or religious discord as a wedge to increase divisiveness and justify their strongman tactics. There is a short emotional distance between divide and conquer to divide and annihilate.

Campaign for the Repatriation of Anahit's Statue
Join us in our campaign by petitioning the British Museum for the return of the fragments of Armenian pagan goddess Anahit's statue to Armenia. The petition targets all the British officials that may be able to help us in restoring our heritage and educating all the tourists that the statue is of Anahit and that it is of Armenian provenance! Since the image of Anahit is so immersed in the Armenian culture, displaying this historic masterpiece in its original cultural context will allow it to be better understood. The time has come for Armenians to be in charge of the management of their cultural patrimonies and to be able to view a cornerstone of their history in their own country.

“A Study of the Origins of the Hai—the First People”
Review By Jirair Tutunjian

One of the wonders of Prof. Hovhanness Pilikian’s “Origins of the Hai—the First People” is the author’s ability to impart so much new and stunning data and fact-based speculation within the slim volume.

The second wonder of the book is the polymath professor’s gutsy (some might say reckless) criticism of the Bing Bang theory and everyone from Charles Darwin to Western scholars who, the author says, push the British-French-German imperial and racist agenda by distorting the truth about the origins of mankind and the key role of the Armenian nation in

Turkey’s EU Minister, Judge Giovanni Bonello and the Armenian Genocide - ‘Claim about Malta Trials is nonsense’

By Keith Micallef
The Malta Independent Online

Judge Giovanni Bonello rubbished the claim made by Turkey’s EU Affairs Minister, Egemen Bagis, that his country was acquitted of the responsibility of the Armenian Genocide in 1915, because no such trial ever took place in Malta.

Though the Turkish Minister was right saying that over 100 Turks were deported to Malta by the British in 1919 to be charged with war crimes, including the Armenian genocide, the lack of concrete evidence and an appropriate legal framework with supranational jurisdiction resulted in the Turkish detainees being repatriated and freed in exchange for 22 British prisoners held by Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk).

The article was written within the scope of Vahan Ishkhanyan’s project regarding the Hamshens. Read about the author here.

Recently, social and political issues regarding the Hamshens, the Hamshen identity have attracted greater attention. This focus is borne out by the growing number of discussions and publications on the topic.

Levon Haçikyan’s “The Hamshen Enigma”,[1] regarded as the first extensive work on the Hamshens, is an apt name for the issue facing us. Despite all that has been written and the academic debates, the question “Who are the Hamshens?” remains unanswered.

Should the Hamshens be viewed as merely residents of this or that region, or do they constitute a
