Armenian Growth Data For 2011 Released
Economic growth in Armenia accelerated to 4.6 percent last year in line with government projections, according to official GDP statistics released this week.

The Armenian economy expanded by over 2 percent in 2010 following a sharp downturn in 2009 caused by a global financial crisis.

The latest macroeconomic data from the National Statistical Service (NSS) shows that its faster growth in 2011 was mainly driven by the manufacturing and agricultural sectors. Industrial output rose by 14 percent and accounted for more than one-quarter of Armenia’s GDP worth 3.82 trillion drams (about $10 billion).

Canadian CBC TV channel shot a film ‘Titanic: the Canadian Survivors’ on Titanic wreck. One of the episodes is devoted to the Canadian-Armenian Neshan Krekorian, told by his grandson Van Solomonian.

Turkish human rights advocate, who recognizes Armenian Genocide, is released from prison

Ragip Zarakolu—a well-known Turkish human rights advocate and director of Belge Publishing House, in Turkey, who is imprisoned within the framework of the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) affair—is released from prison by a court verdict. The court ruled for the release of the fifteen suspects, including Zarakolu, who were arrested in connection with the KCK affair, Milliyet daily of Turkey informs. In the accusation report, which was prepared for the KCK affair, it was asked that Zarakolu be sentenced to ten years on charges of “being a member of a terrorist structure.” To note, Ragip Zarakolu’s Belge Publishing House has published numerous books on the Armenian Genocide, and Zarakolu visited Armenia in February 2011.

CHARLES AZNAVOUR RECEIVES TREE OF LIFE FUND AWARD

World famous French singer of Armenian origin Charles Aznavour received 2012 Tree of Life Fund award.

The ceremony was held in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The annual award is given to prominent public figures for their significant contribution to international humanitarian cooperation.
