E-NEWSLETTER H- J:RJIK A WEEKLY ONLINE PUBLICATION OF THE PRIMATE’S OFFICE OF THE DIOCESE OF THE
ARMENIAN CHURCH OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND
HIS HOLINESS KAREKIN II TO MEET WITH DIOCESAN PRIMATES AND CHAIRMEN
An invitation by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, was sent to all Diocesan Primates of the Armenian Church for a consultation meeting with His Holiness in Holy Etchmiadzin during the first week of November. Accompanying the Primates of the dioceses will be the Diocesan Council chairmen. It is interesting to note that, unlike the vast majority of the Armenian Churches around the world, the Armenian Church in Great Britain and Ireland does not, as of yet, have a diocesan council elected according to the Bylaws and canons of the Armenian Church representing all church communities in Great Britain and Ireland. Furthermore, five of the above mentioned churches are supervised by councils, while elected by the people according to the Armenian Church canons are yet independent of each other. It is because of the above situation that His Holiness gave his blessings for a meeting of all the chairmen of the six church councils in GB and Ireland, to elect a representative from among themselves to join the Primate in the consultation meeting in Holy Etchmiadzin.
COURSE IN CLASSICAL ARMENIAN
The Continuing Education Ministry of the Primate’s Office of the Armenian Church of Great Britain and Ireland is happy to announce the offering of a course in reading and translating Classical Armenian, the language of the Badarak (Patarag) and Armenian Church Liturgy. The course will be offered by H.G. Bishop Vahan Hovhanessian, and will meet in the Vicarage. You do not need to know any Armenian to join the course. Advance knowledge of the characters of the Armenian Alphabet is helpful but not required. Classes will meet on Mondays in the evening at 8:00pm, beginning on the 5th November, 2012. A donation of 50 will help defray the cost of the handout materials to be distributed to the students. To sign up or for further information please contact the Primate’s Office: 0208 127 8364.
